Hey guys.
How do you deal with guys with a little more speed than you, and throw a lot of flurrys? Even though you are blocking most of the punches with your arms, elbows, etc. How do you take advantage of these guys that throw many punches every time you throw one? Say maybe I throw and land a couple jabs, the guy get's irritated, and then after throws flurrys after every punch you throw? Would you get inside to stuff all the punches? Use more of a stick and move style? Throw flurrys of your own? I was thinking maybe I'm getting flurried on because I'm being too stationary and moving at some times and just putting on/up the defense when the combos come. Should I be working on increasing the speed of my counter punching? |

use footwork to get away by circling, or get in close to smother the punches. ducking down and countering to body may work too. |

I slow em down with power shots to the body and power shots to the chin. First you have to have power. I 1 rep maxxed 430lbs at the age of 40 thus I know I have power. Do you have power in your punches? I'm 49 now and no longer do 1 rep maxs, in fact I only lift light for high reps.

I wouldn't go so far as to say NEVER throw just one punch but Emptyness has a point, sometimes the best defense is a good offense. Try throwing some combos of your own. The thing about flurries is that it takes a lot of energy. If he doesn't pace himself he's going to use up his wind sooner or later so you might be able to get to the guy by defending until he winds down and then pushing the pace of the fight. It'd be great to hear Mike's thoughts on this.

this guy is absoulty right u should always be the aggressor but NEVER chase your opponet try to stalk instead and fight at a pace that your confortable never try to push your self to hard i mean it might work but on the other hand if you dont end it you might exert all your energy and have nothing left for later and that my firend would be a dissater |

I've had success with shelling and figuring out his combo by keeping an eye on his right, while waiting for his left to hit, then opening up a combo of my own starting with my left (rear) as he's either between punches or in the process of throwing his right.
I also make sure to shield with my right hand just to so he doesn't hurt me by doubling up on the hook. |

well i think i would be the type of fighter that throws lotsa punches and stuff and yeh it tires you out like cr@p on a stick. since then i have stoppped and i fight better but thats not the point, i also find it irritating when somone charges at me with heaps of powerful punches. charging is somthing i dont deal with well at all because then my punches get jammed and so does my face... also power can overcome speedy punches if the opponent doesnt have good footwork and/or defence.

Punches in bunches?
Keep your head moving, hands up and hit him while he's trying to hit you.
