If you don't have hard bodypunches you will have a tough time, since you will have to be hitting upwards to hit his head. If you have at least decent body punches you move your head moving into him (to close range), and stepping under his jab, then you unload two or three hard body punches to solar plexus and ribs, then one or two hooks to the head, then clinch or step away at an angle.

About the fear, that is normal. But think of this, if you keep your chin down you are quite safe from any hurting damage when you fight with gloves. Nothing he can do will really hurt you seriously. It might knock the wind out of you, or make you slightly dizzy, but that's the worst case senario, so you have nothing to worry about. Also, he might totally outclass you, and make you look like a clown
But if you can handle those two cases you have nothing to fear. Besides, you are fighting a much taller fighter, so you're already brave to do it, and an underdog. So you have nothing to loose but everything to gain.
Have fun

low left hook to the right side of the body and to the floating ribs.
low right cross with a step in, to the right side of the body...
hit the liver...repeatedly, and crack big left hooks to the body, repeatedly, and if he turns in, hit his back and start working the kidneys.

Ascending Jab-

You stand in a regular boxing stance and in order to get on the inside of your taller opponent, you move your left foot foward landing heel first and begin by bending your knees.

Be sure that the heel of your foot lands first. Keep bending your knees further and put your weight on the front foot. Bend your knees like in a squat position to throw this jab with your legs' explosive power.

Then go up and forwards with your leg's explosive power and hit your opponent hard with an "ascending jab". Make sure your front foot is totally off the floor when hitting him. Put your foot down to the ground when you snap your punch back to your face.

It's basically like a regular jab but the only difference is that you are raising yourself from a squating position using your leg's power and throwing the jab at a higher angle to aim towards your taller opponent rather than just throwing it straight.

It is a very underestimated move, and if you start off with the body shots like they said, then suddenly pull off a move like that...it could make you unpredictable if you mix it up.

Weakness of the body and then a hard shake to the head will drop his guard if he isn't too experienced.

I am always told to get in …hit him and move out as soon as you can….but with a bloke that has such a great height advantage which invariably means he will have a longer reach…it is advisable to stay as close to him as possible…the last thing you want is for him to hit you and your arm is about 12” away from his body when you try and hit back??

It reminds me of when I was a kid and the adult would hold his arm out against my head and I try and push forward to hit him but my little arms and well..just too short

Basic Concepts

1. Keep your head a moving target and don't plant until you have to.

2. Footwork, footwork, footwork. Don't stand still.

3. Explode your punches into his body with all of your weight and the spring of your legs. If you haven't learned how to throw a proper punch, you're not going to hurt him and score points insted. A 140 lb boxer who knows how to hit can knock out a much bigger fighter if he knows how to use his body weight!

4. Throw punches in bunches. Don't just throw one big punch; fire 5 punches to get his hands down or guard up and then hit the exposed target.

5. Keep your hands up at all times, your chin tucked.

If its a real fight for your life and there are no rules, then you can stomp, spit, headbut, elbow, knee, bite and all the other stuff - but use only enough force as necessary.

...maybe...but more subtle...don't move away from a taller fighter...move in, and stay close, even to the point of crowding them.

Don't dance around and try to "out-box" a taller opponent, because they will just stick you with jabs until they decide to throw the heavy right.

I don't know what the size difference is... but Hearns is a classic example of an "outboxer" and Hagler is the type to close the distance.

You want to fight like Hagler against a taller opponent.
enjoy this classic war;

Curls are vanity lifts. And, imo bench doesn't do too much either.

I say dumbell fly's, lat pulls, pull ups, LOTS AND LOTS of push-ups.
Anything that works your triceps is golden, wrist rolls, and things like big 3, squats, snatch cleans, jefferson squats, good mornings, and pec decks...all great...if you can find a jammer press...that shit is BOMB.

Otherwise, shadow box with weight...buy bag gloves with a bar in them...and hit hit hit hit hit hit hit...hit. and pushups. lots of fucking pushups, on knuckles, short fast ones.

If you hardly ever get to work the mitts...talk to your coach about it, or get a friend to hold for you. Pretty straight forward.

To make your punches faster...relax your shoulders and warm up nice and good before a workout. (no weights before workout, unless you're shadowboxing with them.)
