Interest in boxing has been like the ebb and flow of the tide over the last century. And now the tide has gone out again.
Why? I think I know why. Boxing has always largely been predicated on the heavyweight division. We have had some great fighters and bouts in other divisions, but the heavyweight division has always been looked upon as the division of the champions. Look at the division though. It has such a lack of talent that its dying. I think the remedy to this should be to create another weight division. A super-heavyweight division for the freaks. Guys like Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klistchko have no business boxing a guy like Chris Byrd. And that's the real problem. If we had guys that were Tyson's size and smaller(200lbs) then boxing would find more life. We would see the best boxers fighting the best boxers there size. All the giants could face each other for people who enjoy their sloppy fights, while the real heavyweights could face each other. With the heavyweight division having no limit to how big and tall a guy can be, its created a boring freakshow with mediocre talent. I think that if they created a limit in the division the matches would be more competitive and exciting to watch. Right now we have an unbalance of size to skill and speed to strength. Also, boxing might want to use some of their money to build boxing gyms to get some new talent. Kids nationwide play baseball and basketball. There are fields and courts everywhere you go. Its hard to find a good boxing gym. Its even harder to find a proper trainer. Seems to me that boxing needs to fix those things and it will continue to reign for years to come.

you're wrong uke
it's not about heavy weight division devidin heavyweights in two categories would result that people will forget about pre-heaviest class people like heavy weights not for their weight but coz they are heaviest reason why people forget bout boxin is coz it startin to be a pussy ass sport jus take a look at De La Hoya vs Mayweather fight it was a pussy ass fight judjes gave the win to Mayweather however he was fightin like a pussy and everyone is like yea Mayweather deserved it Bullshit Hoya won da fight However if u find reasons for Mayweather victory, if u see a boxer should fight like this to win a championship fight, then have a boxin u like and shut the fukk up about people loosin interest in boxin Thats not a surprize LOL

Here is my angle. People are genuinely interested in self defense. Boxing as a self defense art is limited in it usefulness. It only works one on one and if the enemy is the same size as you. Martial arts on the other hands offers weapons, techniques to use on a bigger stronger adversary and if you get really good, it offers techniques to use on "Banks". (Multiple Attacks of 2 or more enemy combatants)

the interest in boxing hasn't dropped..... thats the view of people who don't really no much about boxing, people who follow only big fights. because the fat cats in there big suits might not be so interested any more doesn't mean the true boxing fans have lost interest. the last two big british fights hatton and calzaghe have pulled in ten of thhousands of fans, hardly looks like no one is interested.

However in the USA, where the best come to be champions and gain recognition for having fought the best and the money that comes along with it, the interest primarily lies within the Latino community. They are buying the large percentage of the PPV's. They are buying the large percentage of tickets. Most other Americans are more concerned with the big three: Baseball, Basketball and Football. Interest has definitely waned in the Mecca of Boxing.

From what I gathered speaking to friends who are devoute boxing fans are - they don't like politics behind it. Some of them even argued that some fights are fixed. I don't know how true that is considering I don't follow boxing at all.
They also brought up another point of MMA stealing spot light from boxing when it comes to the general public. If all things were equal the crowd would want to see a knockout with the MMA gloves as compared to the boxing gloves.

This is what I expect from people on this forum. Most have nothing to offer by way of facts, experience or in a lot of cases plain old common sense. So they are reduced to showing their ignorance as soon as something is written that they can't respond to.
Just like last time when wado_kai wrote a half a dozen posts claiming that his favorite boxer didn't care about America or recognition here, only to look like a complete jackass when the boxer's own words supported what I had been stating and showed how ignorant he is. Now he's arguing against statistics that he knows nothing about. Typical pretentious chump.

Those who actually can have a decent dialogue wouldn't even think that statement applied to them. Wado_kai has been unreasonably rude for no reason since the beginning, just like the majority here which is why he fits in. He's tried to make boxing about stupid issues other than boxing, like you have in the past , but at least you have truckloads of other decent posts so that you won't be judged by that one topic. He's just another whiny, boring blowhard from across the pond with bad teeth.

Ok where does this stereotype of "bad teeth" come from? I really don't get how some Americans have this strange belief that you have a superior gene pool or something. This is the country that is known for, in south at least, having sex with one's sister or daughter is considered common place. Just because we are a small country (relatively speaking) does not mean that the population is closely related to one another. To call us "whiny boring blowhard"s is something of a sweeping generalisation, granted Wado_Kai's rebuttal was hardly Oscar Wilde, please don't tar us all with the same brush.
