You're in an amazing area for boxing, especially if you're willing to get on a train for a little while. My best advice is to grab a phone book and thumb through it. I'm sure some names will stick out.
Are you looking for pro or amateur gyms? I'd guess you want to start in the amateurs? Most often, both types of boxing are taught in nearly every gym, but most gyms will have a focus on one or the other. If it were up to me, I'd spend a little extra time on a train and head to Gleason's. 83 Front St, Brooklyn, NY, 11201-1079, Ph: 718.797.2872, Email: info@gleasonsgym.net But some that may be closer to home are: Irish Ropes Boxing Club, 72-34 Burchell Avenue, Queens, NY, 11692, Ph:718.318.5145 Cornerstone Boxing School, 671-A Prospect Avenue, Bronx, NY, 10455, Ph:718.563.7677 Juan Laporte's Boxing, 700 Elton Ave., Bronx, NY, 10455, Ph:718.585.6753 Kid Kelly Sports Boxing Gym, 999 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, 11211, Ph:718.384.8609 Zaragoza Boxing Gym, 926 Broadway, #3, Brooklyn, NY, 11206, Ph: 718.574.9511 I'm not sure exactly where you live, but there are tons and tons of good gyms everywhere around you. Do some digging and find a place that suits your style. |

Well I live in Richmond Hill. I guess I would want to start at an amateur level then work my way up. I don't really know what to look under in a phone book. Also if anyone can talk to me more about gym's my AIM is Preme0ne . Thanks.

The closest gym's i found to my house are Universal and Cowboy. When i called Universal they were really vague. All they said was that they dont hold classes but they show you a little bit but that its mainly just a gym. And Cowboy is gona be closed for a while due to a passing away of someone in the family.

Most boxing gyms are just that - gyms. Coaches are often extra. If you're serious about getting started, get over looking for a place that's close, and find a place that's good. I'm telling you, any boxing fan or practitioner within a hundred miles of you would give one leg to go train at Gleason's. If nothing else, they'll know good trainers in your area and can likely hook you up. You'd be doing yourself a real disservice not to go check them out.
