It's good when the boxing writers echo your own sentiments. I've had plenty of discussions with Uke and others about how I prefer to see an able champion put himself to the test, take some risks, and exhibit heart as well as skill. This is an excerpt from a review on HBO Boxing, written in regards tothe Hatton vs. Castillo fight:

A clear majority of fight observers will testify that the contests least pleasing to watch are not those between the unskilled laborers of the game, or the less gifted. Earnest effort and willing acceptance of risk will always beat out casual displays of technical acumen.

We can all appreciate a Floyd Mayweather, who sits back and snipes, taking shots when he can land them, racking up points and winning decisions. I can personally appreciate the level of skill required, but it doesn't scream "Champion" to me. Apparently, I'm not the only one, as the reviewers at HBO have attested.
Hear that, boxing promoters, matchmakers, and yes - fighters? We want to see the best fight the best. We want to see you push the envelope. We want to see you test yourselves. The boxing ring is no place to "play it safe." Take some risks, earn your rewards, and show us all what it means to be a Champion.
