Default Superfight: Ali vs. Maciano

I checked this out a few nights ago. Great fight! Keep in mind it was done with computers back in the 70's, but the footage looks very real.

Who would win: Ali (in his prime) vs. Marciano (in his prime).

The bout takes both men, adjusts them for their age and physique when they were in their prime and they go at it in a 15 round fight!

That's stupid. More than that, both me fought in two different eras. Ali fought in the beginning of a new era where young and hungry fighters were abundant.

Rocky Marciano fought a the tail end of an era where the best had already peaked, but he fought them anyway for victories with name recognition. Sort of like how the most significant Lennox Lewis victories are against men who were clearly over the hill, but the victory over their names is what was important to him.

I won't say who would have won because that type of crap doesn't amount to a hill of beans anyway. I will say that one boxer fought much better and tougher competition than the other.

Whether or not one boxer fought tougher competition wasn't the reason for watching the video.

I was interested in seeing two fighters, whose styles/attributes/physiques were polar opposites, square off in a match that pitted their strengths against one another based on thorough research of each fighter's career.

Watch the fight for yourself.

Then watch Ali/Frazier and not some computer-fabricated fantasy.

Last time I checked Joe Frazier fought much better and prime opposition than Marciano. Joe Frazier fought the best fighter of his era when the greatest fighter was still at the top of his game. Rocky Marciano fought the greatest fighter of his era once the greatest fighter had retired, began playing golf and got forced out of retirement by the IRS so that the world could have a white heavyweight champion. Marciano himself stated that he knew that he would have lost if the match had taken place just 5 years prior.

So no, Frazier doesn't have the adoration that Marciano has from Marciano fans, but Frazier has more respect among his peers and boxing fans for fighting prime heavyweight champions that weren't forced to compete after retirement.

Even still, computer generated fantasy boxing is garbage and that's why it never caught on.

I've seen an Ali/Frazier fight before. Hell, I might watch it again. Great fight!

I didn't rent the tape based on popularity of the venue.

I wanted to watch Ali and Marciano go at it.

And to see who would win based on historical data from both boxers minus the subjectivity of hometown decisions and politics.

But you didn't see it, and you never will. You saw an animation of one person's opinion of how the fight would have gone, which is bullshit.

If it were a science, gamblers would never be wrong. You might as well have rented a video game, pick those two as characters and pretend that its the real thing. Both scenarios hold about the same validity.

Yeah, I still enjoyed the video.

I think I'll rent the latest Rocky film too...helass, Sylvester Stalone isn't really a boxer, but plays one in the movies (although he dabbles a little in boxing) which is utter bullshit too, but makes for great evening's entertainment!

And finally, this discussion has sparked me for some real fights too:

Ali-Frasier
Leonard-Duran
Tyson-Holyfield (part I).

I've watch this video. A computer generated fight is just that. No one really knows which way a real fight would go. However, a person that study the sweet science of boxing will get a lot out of this fight as it shows a great contrast in styles and mechanics.
