Stay compact, elbows in, chin down, eyes forward, hands up, knees bent. Keep the heel of your rear foot off the canvas slightly for spring, so you can lung in quick when you need to.

Stay close to neutralize your friends' reach. Keep moving. Don't stick around to take punishment. Setup everything with jabs, and keep the pressure on.

Default stance

do as BROKENMACE says.

but as i say to my students fight at your height . eg: if your 5/10 dont try to fight 6'ft it wont work .
make your sparing ptnr fight at your height .
duck & weave to get behind him so he does all the chasing .
remember sparing is like hunting you are either the hunter or you are the hunted it's up to you what you become.
good luck in your quest.

yours in budo ..............dan
