Street Vs The ring

Hello guys i dont know how many of u have been in streetfights but i know most of you have been in the ring. My question is , where do you do betterin the streets or in the ring? for me its in the ring, maybe because its a control enviorment , i wanted to improve my feeling towards the street althogh you cant definantly be all relax like in the ring. i dont know how to do this my only idea is to make my training more dangerous than in the street, actually make it fearfull or something like that, but have no idea as to how to do this. The only way i can unleash everything is by getting mad but i dont get mad if people tell me a shitty word like fu** *** they have to be saying it constantly or try to do something to my family for me to get in my angry mindset.

Street fighting isn't a good decision. I have only been in a few short brawls.

Most people throw sloppy punches with their arms; they aren't quite straight or hooked, but they follow a crooked pathway.

Most MA will never willingly walk into a streetfight.

Most people do not expect kicks to the legs, knees from clinch or elbows. They think you will swing or kick like a football player.

If you can fight in the ring, then you can probably fight in the street. But it doesn't mean you can fight against a knife, stick or gun which is why it is a bad idea in the first place.

sorry to ask this question but whats the clinch? is it when you run to an opponent and punch him? thanks

It is when you grab him. This is done frequently around the neck, but it can also be around the torso or the arms.

The clinch happens when you are within punching range. It is the act of grabing onto your opponent. In boxing, one hand scoops around the power arm and one hand around the neck. You then hug your opponent close to you in order to smother him and prevent punching.

In thaiboxing the clinch has another variation. You scoop one hand around the back top of the head and then the same with the other. You seize the opponents head with your palms on top of each other (fingers not interlaced) and pull his head into you while using your forearms to lock in the clinch around the sides of his neck. The palms should be on the back,top portion of the head and you can use a little weight to keep them there. Why is the thai clinch good?

You control the head and therefore control the body by pulling him constantly off balance; difficult to throw punches when you can't plant.

The forearms constrain the neck and can actually choke while in the clinch.

You can throw your opponent into a knee from several angles.

Ask your muay thai coach to teach you proper technique.

I would say that I'm a better street fighter than Boxer. 1) Because I don’t have as much experience boxing as I do with street fighting and grappling and 2) of the structured nature of the ring. That being said I would second the fact that street fighting is a bad idea. I personally have had two fights end up with sever injury on my part, once on account of being stabbed and once on account of being surprised from behind after I thought it was over which resulted in severe damage to my ACL.

Although a boxing match is a harder game to win IMO, it’s a lot more fun as well. The mental game of boxing is as rewarding to me as the physical aspect. Reading a fighter to predict his next move, setting them up for a punch, drawing them in with a slight hesitation…and hey, you never have to worry about the guy shooting you if you beat him either.

I haven’t been in to many street fights but I usually did pretty well. I can’t say the same about the ring (won a few, lost a few). I think the street is just more instinctual and you just let your body take over and do what it knows to do. In the ring for me anyways I always over analyze my opponent and try to make things work even win there not working. At least in my younger days, this passes with experience.

Street fights are crap.
Everyone I have had they haven’t even been a challenge.

One of my street fights was when a guy came up from behind me a 7 ft dude and started mouthing off. I wasn't bothered about how rude he was being but I wasn't going to miss this opportunity of a fight. I love fighting.
I think that what catched my opponent out was that I wanted him to give me a good fight. I fought him and defeated him and had fun and cheekily asked for more saying "please get up, get up, get up you tall lanky bum."

He was one of these Low Life Bums.

But I do not live in rough areas. I don't have to have a fight in the mourning for some milk. I don't know what it is like for people who live in the rough areas of west Philli and Brooklyn.

street fights are more dangerous because theres no regulations or rules for that matter...in the ring, there are going to be rules and regulations you have to abide by...in the streets, someone can come at you with a knife or like 3 people coming at you...I think your true skills will shine more respectively on the streets rather than inside the ring because there arent any rules on the streets and you have to fight to your highest potential...
