My experiance with Shadow Boxing, with and without weights is that it was more beneficial to my form then my hand speed. Becuase I could be in front of a mirrior or beside one and watch how my punches we being thrown and see how they were coming at the other person and judge where I thought I left myself open when punching... As far as hand speed goes I suppose it does help just to get you arms used to working in that fashion but if you were planing on working handspeed for boxing purposes I would suggest wearing the gloves since when you spar/bout that is what you will be wearing.

No it does increase your hand speed and your form without question. But I was suggesting you do it with gloves on so you are more comfortable working the same way you would in the ring.
