De La Hoya vs Mosley

This fight has really shown what caynd of corrupted and dirty sport boxing was /is and shall continue to be.
De La Hoya clearly won this fight , he did everything a good boxer should do in a ring if confronted with a stronger and faster opponent , he boxed him out in the first rounds and came out fighting in the last round he showed a lot of heart and a good chin.
Mosley`s corners knew theyr fighter was loosing , this was clearly shown buy his dad telling him to come out strong and do everything in his power to knock him out, you dont tell a fighter on his last round when is clearly winnin the fight on the cards, to go out and risk it all to knock the guy out.
Well Oscar clearly won the fight even tough he didnt lol and i think hes smart to retire after this, theres no point into fighting for such a crucket sport.
Out of all of this whats funny is how all this so called boxing expert out there called MMA fighters a bunch of thugs that should bring chains and knifes to the ring lol , well ill rather be a thug and fight with honour then to be a leet member of the mafia and promote a fight where the outcome is decided in the same way they decide WWF fights .

What a disapointment :grrrrr: The funny thing is that i got a little upset when i heard how close the fight was, then my mind was blown that they said that mosely had one the fight! WTF? Mosely might have one 3 rounds...i emphashize might. De la hoya was using that jab beautifuly, it stopped mosely from doing anything, i was suprised how one diminsional mosley looked...i was hoping for more than he brought to the table.

Mosely did the same thing he did to earn his loses to forrest...nothing. He waited for one big punch, that was all, i really dont remember seeing him land more than one punch at a time. Everytime mosely landed one he ate atleast 2-3 from oscar.....even jack mosely was pleading with him to do something. Shit the mosely camp looked suprised that they had won....that bullshit about them only being suprised beacuse they didn't think they could win on the cards in vegas is wack, they won it the first time in vegas in a close fight.

It's not just if the person looked like they were "being hit" is what the judges are using to determine the fight. A scoring system is used to determine and to tally points in a fight. I'm a little rusty in the whole scoring point system, but I believe even each belt has it's own rules.

The scoring system for one thing starts out 10-10, and a point is taken away as deemed by the judges as necessary (loss of the round, illegal moves, warnings, ect.). Knockdowns also are a factor for points being taken away. But if no one breaks any rules or if there are no knockdowns only one point is taken away from the loser of that round. So the next question should be "what do they use to determine who actually wins/loses a round?

Solid hits are only counted, not "skids" as I call them. Sugar Ray Leonard was the master of getting points because although Leonard had great punching power even into his latter years (vs Lalonde, for example) he usually knew when to beef up his score by executing quick, percise-but not powerful-punches that would raise his score. Leonard was a boxer that knew the game. There would not be so many disputes if half of the boxers and most of the fans actually looked up the rules and applied them to the rounds before commenting on the outcome of fights.

The punch has to be effective, although they aren't really supposed to use that as a factor. The thereoy goes if a punch is clean and solid, then it should be effective. if it dosen't, then it's just a shadow-and-light shot and most judges don't count those because if they can't see it clearly, then the boxer who knows where the judges are sitting could be trying to "shine" up his score by giving a pitty-pat flurry. I disagree with you completely. If moving in circles and jabbing isn't effective scoring, then Muhammad Ali would have lost more of his fights, because that's basically what he did.

In case you missed it, Mosely has been called in to testify in connection with that outfit that has been providing designer steroids. Barry Bonds and others have also had to testify. I'm looking forward to finding out whether Mosely was on something. He looked MUCH stronger in the second fight than he did in the first, although I thought Oscar clearly outpointed him in the second fight.

Decisions like this and the one that followed the next week in the Byrd-Oquendo fight have really soured me on the sport. I think boxing is hopelessly corrupt.

It was a very close fight...period. Both fighters could have got the decision. Scoring is based on a little more than just hitting or getting hit. Some judges prefer busier fighters too. The bottom line is this, if you don't want to get "robbed" on the score cards...knock your opponent out. It reminds me of another controversial fight a few years back: Hagler/Leonard. In my opinion, Marvin Hagler clearly won that one. The judges scored for Leonard, Hagler never fought again. That's the way it goes. Oscar should quit being a F@#$ING cry-baby. If he wants to retire...he should retire. If he wants to make it right, he should ask for another crack at Sugar Shane.
