Default People who have had broken hands in the past....gotta ? for ya

Four weeks ago i broke my hand, it was splinted up for the duration. I went to the doctor last week on a follow up, and he told me i didn't need a cast or even a splint anymore because it was healing right. Well anyway i had them put a new splint on. I wore the new one for about 5 days, then i took it off last night. The thing is now, i can barely move my pinky and my ring finger leans a little now...and my pinky feels a little numb and tingly...is this normal?

I had the same thing. It takes about a week or so of working with it to get back your mobility. The tingling should go away soon but you may want to give the doctor a call and tell him because it could be a sign of a pinched nerve or nerve damage.

I had my hand casted for 4 weeks. I had to have the bones in my hand realigned as it was fairly well mangled.

Ouch... I broke my right pinky finger while training with a friend, who was a professional boxer at the time. The thing is, I didn't realize it was broken... My hand was very swollen, but I figured it was from all the punching. The next morning, it hurt like hell and I iced it. I had it examined, etc... But you can still see that it's crooked. It also makes a noise when I clench my fist.

Was yours bruised or swollen in anyway after the cast? Mines swollen under my pinky on the palm side of my hand.

Mine was pretty mangled as well, they had to realign my pinky bone because it was pressed against my ring fingers' bone, causing my hand to look kinda folded.

Can they fix damaged or pinched nerves? They're not gonna have to amputate are they?

Yes mine hand was swollen as well. The bone was under the index finger bone.

Not much chance or them fixing nerves, they can do a little but still not a lot. But nerves to regenerate on their own.
I got kicked in the face once and it damaged the nerve so I couldn't feel half my face for about 6 months or so. then one day It stopped and I could feel it again.

As long as it's tingling that is a good sign. Still if you are concerned I'd give the doctor a call.

well if I touched my face it felt like plastic. I did have a little sensation in my lip. (almost led to me beating a girl, she kissed me when I wasn't expecting it and it felt like needles getting jabbed into my lip. It did end up causing me to drool at night. Wierdest damn thing.

Yes, all of that is very common. After 4-5 weeks of cast some muscles loose tone, and some shortens. That shortening called contracture. Also, skinn deteriorates a lot. Once I saw a hand after cast for 12 weeks. You can’t even stand in the same room. It was looking awful and smelling like Hell. So, providing that there is no damage to the nervs, intensive stretching, massage, conditioning should bring it back to normal. But you’ll have to sweat over it a lot.

I live a little over 100 miles away from the hospital i go to, you cant call hospital's and ask to speak to a doctor.

Have you actually spoken to a doctor lately? I had to yell at mine to find out that my hand was actually broken in the first place. Im not wasting 50-$60 in gas and waiting 5 hours in the waiting room plus a ridiclous doctor bill, for some dude that ignore's me, when i can just ask someone here who's been through this before. It was a simple question that already got taken care of about a month ago, i really didn't see the need for your little school girl attitude
