Heah shots a no no? I don't think so. But ensure you hit the lower face areas, as the skull will beat your knuckles.

I started boxing a few months ago and I was wondering if any of you guys had any advice on using boxing for regular self-defense...obviously headshots are a no-no...any other pointers? I started boxing primarily for self-defense but the more I get into it, the more I want to compete eventually.Gotta work on that conditioning. But yea...any advice would be much appreciated.

Especially the Limey Skulls. They are the hardest.
Ofcourse boxing is good for self-defense... Especially if you get good at it. Boxing provides sound fundaments: striking, mobility and mentality. Combine that with enhanced reflexes and speed and the other guy is in a world of trouble.
Head punches... Okay, if you know where you're aiming... Remember the first thing you learned as a kid — Go for the nose... Aim for soft spots and avoid the skull. Otherwise, play it safe and go to the body, neck, chin (can result in broken hands), etc...
Work on combos and continuous punching. The more comfortable you are with throwing combinations, the better... An "old-school" rule is to end each combo with the lead hand: jab, cross, hook... so you end up back in a balanced stance. Keep truckin' dude.

And accomplishes without action;
He accepts the ebb and flow of things,
Nurtures them, but does not own them,
And lives, but does not dwell.
Good advice.
Thanks Great Sage...I was wondering if you had read that book by Jack Dempsey called Championship Boxing or something? My boxing coach recommended it to me if I was serious about using boxing for self-defense.
VKF,
If you have the means, definitely pick up Jack Dempsey's Championship Fighting. It's supposed to be great (I've only read a few chapters). Unfortunately, it goes for about $100 on e-bay, and it's hard to find in the first place.

Hard cover of that book runs between 290 and 450 bucks

hey thats a cool book. I just added it to my favorites hehe. Boxing is a basic and as simple as it gets and thats why it is so effective. remember K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) I started out just by picking up a book and teaching myself the basic punches and stances and from there its all you. you can make an endless amount of combos and the great thing is you never have to leave your feet. unless of course they make you. but hey thats what cross training is for.
Small note. If you want to use your hand without gloves (like you’ll have to in self-defense), it makes sense to condition fists by working on a heavy bag with no bag gloves on, only in hand wraps. Start with one-two rounds, and increase it in time
i aim for the head, but i always aim for the chin.... or the squishy part of the cheek right next to the chin![]()
it's pretty easy to beat up someone who doens't know what they're doing, which is mainly the type of people you'll meet out there who want to get into a fight....

Which many street fighting shit heads are.
Don't kid yourself that a street fight will be easy. You can't bank on it. Sure, some guys are Paper Tigers. But some are the real thing, trained or not.
Naw Bri you are completely wrong.... no one knows how to fight, no one is experienced, there are no other boxers, wrestlers, MAs in the world, just the one on this forum. And since we all know what each other looks like and where they live, we will never attack each other. However, if I get into a fight with somone outside the forum, I know myI know my sophisticated psychic law of averages will tell I am safe to use any sloppy technique I want because nonone can block it. They will be in awe that I am a FIGHTER they will be to scared to fight back. YEAH!!!! YEAH!!!! Another successful night of impressing my girl and my friends with my might YEAH!!!!!
