hi, i am 15 years old and am really into martial arts. i am hoping to maybe open up my own school someday and teach. but i dont know which martial art to do. i am currently doing JKD but dont like it. i think i would like ninjitsu because i like all the trick fighting and stuff. i really like the fact that ninjas can do all those flips and wall climbs and stuff, but i also want to learn how to defend myself. if flipping, camoflauge, tricking, and self defense are my kind of thing, should i try ninjitsu. here is the website of the ninjitsu place i would have to go to. www.lininja.com ... the site doesnt give much information about what they actually do, but it says that they teach traditional ninjitsu. so if this is true, i should be learning the same stuff that the actual ninjas learned right?... well anyway, i just wanted your opinion if you think this might be the martial art for me.
thanks for your time french fri25 |

Calm down, go to your high school and join the ____ team for a few years before you worry about opening your own school and imagining yourself a ninja.

I guess it really depends on what your into... If the traditional arts are what intrigue you and that is what you desire to learn, then go for it. Ninjitsu has a certain mystery about the art, as they don't really disclose alot about their art to non-practicioners (myself for example). So I can't really speak for the effectiveness of the art personally. That may be something you have to discover for yourself, if you don't like it you can always move on.
If you are looking to learn strictly self-defense oriented techniques they you may want to refine your search to schools that are Reality Based Self Defense type of schools (RBSD). Really what is comes down to is you got to be doing what you enjoy. I practice BJJ and Muay-Thai, because I enjoy them. I find their techniques to be effective in sparring and it's fun. For me, that's what matters... if your interested in ninjitsu... try it. It can't hurt.... |

My advice to you kid, don't be a freakin ninja. Where are you going to climb walls? Are you going to carry all the little ninja tricks with you when you turn 21 and start going to clubs and bars? If you are about to get into a fight are you really gona bust out ninja tricks? I think if you want to do it as a novelty thing then go for it, but as far as self defense, there are much better options.

There's very little use for the stealth and espionage techniques of ninjitsu in the modern world. But if it's what you want, go for it. |
