holyman is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Kungfu is spiritual and not just for combat

What westerners fail to grasp is the fact that kungfu is more of a spiritual journey and allows someone to transcent to a higher level.

This is why so many thai boxers begin thier study of kungfu late because they discover that their fighting or training is not completed without kungfu.

Please can i have your thoughts on this ?

Yes, you can have my thoughts.

That is a pretty shite excuse for the fact that the vast majority of mainstream Kung Fu is ineffective shite. And a whole host of Thai Boxers have NOT gone to Kung Fu.

Bye!

I will agree with Holyman on this one, but only on a limited level. The fact that your Kung Fu does become a way of life is taking it to a more "spiritual" level. But I would caution that taking it "too far" would result in getting to esoteric with it. If you start to employ too much of the "spiritual" aspects of it, you run the risk of getting your ass whupped. Fighting arts are primarily for fighting, not for sticking your hands in your pockets and kicking up dirt.

Kung Fu isnt the only art that does this. Several other arts employ this system and many for valid reasons. A buddy of mine trains in Aikijutsu and they train heavily in meditation. Their reasoning is that it will enhance their fighting abilities. Where as I disagree with some of the aspects of this, I do understand their line of logic once I understood the history of their art.

For me, as esoteric as I get is Sun Tzu's Art of War. That line of reasoning can easily be applied to any form of combat (and business). Both on large and small scale.

No one can question the proposition that Thai Boxing is a very effective fighting art. Some forms of "kung fu" are questionable when it comes to real combat. But kung fu has thousands of years of history and that history includes spirituality as well as fighting skills. Serious kung fu practitioners consider it a lifestyle which includes both a spiritual and martial journey.

A person who studies a good combat style of kung fu such as Tiger Claw, Choy Li Fut or San Soo and also includes spirituality adds a special dimension to his life.
