Ive got some Wushu related questions and I really hope one of you can answer them for me
1. -When people talk about 'Modern' Wushu, do they only refer too the 10 international Taulu's (chang quan, nan quan etc.) or others too? 2. -Styles like Eagle Claw, Fanzi Quan, Ditang Quan, they all fall under the Traditional competition? Which traditional ones? At the next championschips that I will be attending it is orginazed as: COMPETITION EVENTS: I. Modern Wushu: Changquan; Nanquan; Taijiquan; Jianshu; Daoshu; Qiangshu; Gunshu; Nandao; Nangun; Taijijian. II. Traditional forms: Northern styles; Southern styles; Taijiquan; Long weapons; Short weapons; Other weapons; Taiji weapons; Set - sparring. III. Juniors form: Barehand forms (age): under 10 years 11 - 13 years 14 - 16 years Weapon forms: ages 16 and under. IV. SANSHOU: Men: - 48, 52, 56, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, over 90 kg Women: - 48, 52, 56, 60, 65, 70, 75, over 75 kg - 3. Is this the normal way? or how is it done in China? 4. I dont quite understand how it is done, Styles like Eagle Claw are a whole system by themselve right? there are schools/teachers who only teach Eagle claw, but how can it be that it just falls under Traditional taulu in these competitions? That gives me the feeling that you can also just learn a couple of techniques and become a champion in the traditional event without even have studied the whole art/system. 5. Actually the same for the 3 internal styles: Bagua, Xingyi and Tai chi. These are also an whole art by themselves and there are also schools that only teach one of them. Then what about the competitions? for instance; Tai chi, they just chose a couple of forms/taulu's for the competitions and left the rest out of it? And where do Xingyi and Bagua fall under then? also traditional? 6. Can you use every technique form any Northern style in your Chang Quan routine? or how is this devined? same for Nan quan...... hope any of you guys can help me... |

I didn't read your full post, but it sounds like you are wondering about the rules of competition for wushu?? Well, I would suggest, if that is the case, that you go check out www.wushu.com or www.beijingwushuteam.com - that should be Raffi's Wushu Site; if it isn't, google "Raffi's Wushu Site." I'm sure they have the rules of the various wushu competitions.
When people say, "modern wushu," they are referring to performance art wushu, with the high, flashy, jumping kicks and acrobatics, etc.....which I think is an awesome art, but it is a martial-performance art, not a martial art, the way many of its practitioners try to claim. |
