it's not a religion. However some religions have some aspects of martial arts. Some martial arts have some religious aspects as well.

For many it is a sport.
Others it is a philosophy
others and endevour

It's what you want it to be.

Oh and holyman is a bit of a different type character.

haha, yea, no offence holy man or anything, if your reading this......

anyways, i prefer kung fu to be a way to hurt people (to put it as bluntly and in its most basic manifestation possible) and nothing more. all that philosophical stuff is just weird.

If Holy Man said that the ultimate goal in gung fu is to become a god....well, Holy Man sounds like an ass. Now if Holy Man said the ultimate goal is "self perfection," then I could agree with that. For me, it's just for health, self defense, and self refinement.

Kung Fu is a lifestyle which some people incorporate religion into. Many more people do not put any religion into their Kung Fu.

Depends upon what faith and degree of faith you subscribe to. There are some fundmentalist Christians would say that practicing the martial arts ill send you to hell. As far as I can see this is because they claim that they promote violence or (if this isn't your reason for practicing them) or they promote elightenment through self perservaverence (sp?). This seems to be offensive to some fundamentalists who believe that salvation only comes through Christ and from no other avenue. Haven't read Holyman's posts but I think there's a difference between salvation and becoming a god.

Cheers

Fundementalists are among the biggest hatemongers there are, which isn't in line with the teachings of Jezus either

you will not become a god when practicing kungfu, but you will become more or above mortal....... why??????

imagine..... with just MuayThai, practicing it your sheenbone will become as hard as steel........

now.... practicing kungfu, you can benefit the gift of IRON PALM

So, let it rock
Let it roll
Let the Bible-belt come
and save my soul

No, you won't go to Hell because you practice kung fu. You will go to Hell if you don't trust Jesus Christ for your salvation. I practice the martial arts for reasons of fitness, self-defense, and because it is my favorite sport. I don't do well at team sports (i.e. basketball, football, etc.) and have no passion for them, but I love muay thai. Now, while practicing kung fu won't put you in Hell, it might put you in the hospital should you rely on it in a real street fight. But, that's just my opinion -- a belief that certain arts are more practical to use than others.
