could anyone please advise me on the following.
I have decided I want to learn how to use a sword. i know there are so many different types of sword, the type I have decided on looks like a half length to 2 thirds length of a samurai sword, i dont know the name of it, perhaps someone can visualise. My question is, where the hell do i start, there are so many different styles and arts and worse, what country's styles should I consider, the Chinese arts, the Japanese or Fillipino???, any ideas?? advice much appreciated. (ps, any flamers & haters will receive countless pages of ancient Chinese history directly into their next thread ) |

m.artist, I would say something fast ,straight forward & to the point as you say, rather than flashy forms.
That having been said, I have seen some fantastic looking moves in some of the Chinese arts (with a variety of swords). Someting else that makes a very difficult decision is that there are so many different types of sword. if you have any comments on any of the above, i look forward to hearing from you. thanks. |

you describe what you want, and then say you want something totally different lol you want straight forward and to the point then you want either filipino blades, or japanese blades the chinese sword is too flowery if i were you, and you wanted to do a sword style for fun, i would go with battojutsu, or iaijtusu(japanese, if you couldn't tell lol) or if you want great knife fighting and sword fighting skills, i would go to a good sayoc school or something like that

this link above is for samurai sword lovers. Kenjutsu. So the question is for what purpose do you want to learn how to use a sword? I think you should decide on the art, not on the type of sword. But I'm opinionated. cant help it. |
