Yes. Balance can be a bit tricky though, if you use an entire Olympic barbell. Start of at about 100kilos and work up to 1,000. Strap thme tightly to your legs and then jump into the river.

In all seriousness, what good is slow motion kicking? It will be good for exercising muscles like the obliques and hips, but will not help actual kicking.

It is a trad MA fallacy to suggets that being able to perform the kicks slowly will help you do it quickly. I mean, how many runners do you see practicing in slow motion?

If you do want to do it, keep the weights off your legs until you can do slow motion high kicks. By then you will be as strong and felxible as any top ballet dancer and, in all honesty, you are fairly unlikely to get to that stage anyway.

it helps u build the technique for the kick, and allows u to get strong enough to perform it even better at real speed. i dont know about all kicks, but i do slow kicking for building up my sidekick. they dont really train us in the sidekick at the place i train at, but ive been able to develope a really nice one by myself. doing the kick over and over ver slowly, and holding it in position has helped me in developing this kick well.

Slow Motion Kicking. The only good thing is good for is balance and maybe putting extra strain on certain muscle groups. I don't belive it will improve kicks

Duuuurrrrr.

1. I want to film kicks and make them look fast.

2. It is easier to kick fast than slow.

3. I will learn to kick slow as I can speed the film up.

4. I will not just kick fast, which is easier, and then speed the film up, which will make them look faster too. Because:

5. I am a dick.

Yes weights on the ankles are very good. A direct student of Peter Urban told me about it. I use 5 lb weights. Do the usual sets and reps routine. It's really helped. Do the kicks really slow else you will mess yourself up.

Default Squats vs. weighted kicks

The general muscle development with squats is great. I do those too with dumbbells in my hands to give a little more go power.

The advantage of using weights on the ankles or wieghted shoes (Japanese tetsu geta) is that muscles being used are exactly those of the kick. It also helps to improve the balance and focus for better kicking. Focus on the exact muscles needed for technique prevents development of muscle that can get in the way of technique.

What's the source? Who is it in the pictures? The pix are evidently old; do you practice this now? If so how?
