Studio,
The main difference between Northern and Southern is their stances. Most southern styles (which are often called silum) use mostly hand strikes and close-quarter fighting. Whereas Northern uses a lot of kicking and distance. Look i could go into a whole big lecture on Chinese Martial arts but i'm not fearing the wrath of other members. Look...I trained with the Monks in Houston for 4-5yrs. And now i'm training Muay Thai....do you follow me? If you want something straight forward hard-hitting, no bullshit martial art that's effective for the street. Take MUAY THAI!!! Nuff said!!! |

belt system in kung fu? This is either some sort of spin off or introduced into the system. I think the guy shows off his kempo more than his tong long and calls it northern mantis personally.

the northern mantis style uses the mantis hand as a hook for grabs and the southern uses very rapid hand techniques resembles a mantis's fingers or claw used to rapidly poke someone and keeping them off balance. The Northern and the Southern have different representation of the mantis and the Northern and the Southern uses the techniques of the mantis in different ways, thats the difference.
