    Shaolin Monk Vs. TKD Blackbelt

I thought this video was pretty awesome. There are obviously rules, and the Monk is obviously more skilled, but I thought it was a cool fight.

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...q=shaolin+monk

Anybody have any other videos on the shaolin monks?

That monk could have taken out the TKD guy after he threw those first kicks. He parries the side kick and gets out of the way and he allmost wants to close the gap (you can see his parrying hand wanting to spring into the TKD guy).

In another part of the fight the TKD guy sets up a nice spinning wheel kick and the monk times it to where he could have swept the TKD guys planted leg.

The monk was obviously skilled and very calm, whereas the TKD guy was starting to breath heavier; maybe a sign of chi-breathing and breath control?

I think the monk was just trying to block at 1st lol. It looked funny, he kept blocking his kicks and yes he did look very calm.

Oh yeah, that monk was definately "Playing?" with him. Always parrying, he definately could have tore that TKD guy up. But does anybody have another videos with other monks? I love their style, too bad their so mysterious. Iron Jacket Kung Fu rules.

It didnt look like the TKD guy enjoyed those slap blocks much most monks study ironpalm so those blocks were actually causing quite a bit of ...ugh discomfort...

The monk was totally playing with dude

Nope. And i dont think thats how that Monk fights either he never once attempted to enter the windows his blocks created. He also didnt advance whenever the opponent did...he seemed to be playing...He frolicks with other monks, he was content to deflect and evade, the few times he did advance, he seemed to miss on purpose. mind you Im not trying to make monks out to be supermen, but that one clearly was in complete control of himself.

As for the wave motion, i have seen that movement from many styles not just the CMA's either. It did have some snake and elephant elements though

Many of the ironpalm fighting styles use that flow to evade and power their strikes if I had to guess it was that aliveness that was showing through.

    Elephant style(?!):

    !cool.

I would expect Tai Chi to finish very quickly(if it had to)...but you reckon it had nothing to do with Tai Chi so...it's just an interesting clip!

What can we learn from it!?

I suppose we were just looking at a sparring session...or that's all the monk let it come to. Kung Fu..as I think of it..is about matching the intention + 1%. So, the monk just showed no gap's in his defence and that sufficed for entertainment purpose's. He basically wished to show no ego. Ah- that is what lead's to the gap in defence.

oh yeah and by the way he used a long bu form the whole way through the sparring match, but he took a higher stand point than the long bu form that you would use while stance holding during training, it is also known as the dragon stance or "lady" stance, i would have taken the same form in his situation observing my opponent being tkd he will use high kicks, the long bu, also snake hand have a high extended guard hand to act as a guide for long range attacks making for much better defence,

    peace.

Is there only me that can see that the Emperor is naked?

Neither of those guys managed to hit the other with anything meaningful at all. They jumped about, missing wildly. Just because the Monk looked cool, it doesn't mean that he was missing on purpose. If all three people had been dressed the same it would have been hard to tell which one was the ref for goodness sake!

That clip summed up just how many years can be wasted learning acrobatics and posing instead of fighting. And I'm more than a little disappointed that some people think that the clip was "awesome".

What better self defense than to not be hit? Seems pretty effective. We weren't allowed to hit ( hard contact ) until after the rank of third brown belt. The reason being, anyone can hit, it takes real self controll not to hit. This type of training can turn you into a hard target. It makes you rely on speed and there is something to be said about 4 or 5 years of learning to effectively block an attack. I'm a little guy and considerably fast for my age, I ve been in a couple of scraps and I'm a firm believer that speed is better than power. It's most likely because of my size or lack of it that this is my opinion, but we should all train to our strengths.
Thanks for the clip it was great.
