This clip is not reprezentiv for WT/WC of Kickboxing.
Both of them were weeeeeek. The WT-man had realy f***ed-up footwork (steps, stance and kicks .. all of them were sh!ty) His hand tehnic was bad too and he was keeping his head in front (more like a boxer).
I'm not even going to coment the lack of coordination, timeing and explosinon.

In case you did not know ... going forward is the essens of WT/WC, so it's not optional it's a MUST. And even that wasn't good in the clip.

Hehe I have no idea... it's just a guess from my side that he was a kickboxer. Might be an MT guy. Either way he's not very good. But the WT man had a reach advantage. So it takes a little more skill for the shorter guy to land a punch I guess.

Also, the WT guy had very thin gloves compared to the kickboxer, so his punches will hurt more with less effort. They should sparr with the same sort of gloves if they want it to be fair.

Can you suggest things he might do better? Curious.

he could put a little more elbow power into his blocks for one. But then again it depends on how long he has practiced.

he wasnt a mt guy, thats for sure. it was more like american karate/ american kickboxing. he didnt throw any thai roundhouses. he didnt set up any of his kicks with punches, or vice versa. his hands were way too low and his strikes were just pathetic.

Well, he didn't look very experienced, so at that stage it can be hard to tell what they are training.
My guess is (american) kickboxing. And yeah you are supposed to set up kicks with punches, but many beginners usually don't do that anyway, they prefer attacking with kicks so the opponent can't reach them with punches.
And this WT guy had a reach advantage on him, not to mention his much thinner gloves. So the kickboxer would have to know how to get past his opponents longer arms. Appearantly he got scared as soon as the WT guy got close.

So what could the WT guy do better? I'm guessing he didn't want to attack the kickboxer with more force since it was only sparring, the kickboxer couldn't do much anyway.

Man, I love it when you guys post those sparring vids. The guy in the Brown shirt was obvisouly the kickboxer but he move backwards to much. When someone is pressing and charging you like that; the best way to offset it is to swallow your guts and charge his as he charges you. It takes guts but is a very effective stratgey.
