Good idea. The term is derogatory, racist and inflammatory around MA forums because it was used during WW2 it was understood to be dehumanizing and filled with hatred for the "enemy".

That Is The Weakest Example Of Drunken Boxing I Have Ever Seen. Any True Martial Artist Should Always Test His Skill In Full Contact More Hours Than Anything Else. When Used Properly The Drunk Is Awesome. They Were A Disgrace. THE DRUNK IS ABOUT ADAPTABILITY AND FORMLESS COLLAPSING TRAPS. PLUS THEY HAD NO JIN.

I really don't think that it's about the arts when you look at the film, but more about the training methods that each art adhere's to. In all likelyhood, the kyokushin fighters were athletes... probably the top fighters in the dojo in question. To achieve a blackbelt in kyokushin you have to fight 10 blackbelts in a row, one right after the other. That requires a great deal of athletic conditioning in the areas of strength, power, endurance and pain tolerance. Not to mention the thousands of hours of contact sparring that you have to do in preparation.
The drunken fighers simply do not look like conditioned combat athletes. Even if the drunken fighters had landed any hard blows, the way the two fighters would react to a hard shot would be completely different. In kyokushin tournaments a blow only scores if the opponent reacts to it. If a kick to the head hits and the fighter doesn't flinch, no score... he has to either be stunned or knocked down. I doubt the drunken fighters are conditioned in that way so their perceptions of contact shots will be completely different. |
