Hey guys, this is my first time posting here, after browsing for a while. I am interested in learning Wing Chun, despite some negative comments, for the basic moments and logic seem reasonable.

However, reading about "mcdojos", I am worried about wasting my time and money enrolling in such a place. What exactly is a mcdojo? Just a place where they tell you what you want to hear and you never really learn anything good?

I've come across a few new york city wing chun websites, could anyone take a look and possibly give me some input on where should I go? the sites are www.wingchunnyc.com www.wing-chun.net and www.citywingtsun.com. (sorry if posting links is against the rules I will change my post). I have absolutely ZERO idea on the different versions of wing chun, ving? chun, wing tsun, or lineages, etc.

Can anyone clear this all up for me and someone with new york city knowledge share their expertise. Thanks for reading

Cool, thanks for the reply. Is the instructor at Nubreed martial arts recogonized and established? I'll check it out sometime. Whiteplans kinda far though, hopefully theres a good place closer to manhattan?

The people at Nubreed are hooked up with Dan Inosanto and Rick Tucci. I think there is a Nubreed in NYC also. I think, I'm not sure.

If you're in NYC, check Jesus Vasquez. I met him personally and he is knowledgeable albeit very low key practitioner. He is an instructor in Corto Mano under Joe Muse (Kali and Wing Chun- Kali is Pekiti Tirsia under Leo Gaje and Wing Chun from Duncan Leong). Back in the late 90's he was teaching in the Lower East Side. He might be teaching out of Kioto Jiujitsu in Long Island now.

I also know of Louis Oscar, a wing chun instructor under Jason Lau, who was teaching out of the Boys Club in the Lower East Side.

Hope this helps (LES was my stomping ground for a little bit).

I just started Wing Tsun in the Chicagoland area. It's a very practical martial art and is extremely efficient. Just sort of "shop" around until you see a place that you think would be good for you. Look out of course for the places that just want your money. Ask people for reccomendations (like you're doing now with this topic) of good places, only, maybe ask friends or co-workers?

Shard: Heh I understand. I'm going to look for a place that emphaizes on sparring, not just air punching. I will let you guys know what happens though.

Do a search under "Corto Mano" or "Kali-Wing Chun" or look for instructors under Joe Musse (Musi?). I dunno if he still works with them, but you might try checking out Kioto JiuJitsu (I dunno if they have a webpage) for his contact info.
