Was going to invite you to Majorca where I am opening a Wing Chun gym and a bar linked to a set of apartments, cheap holiday and training but such is life.

Majorca was a great place, until those Wing Chun thugs moved in.

Well there was only Wing Tsun on the island, now its WC time whether to take the number 1 or who gives a number 2 will be decided later, did a bit happy slapping the last time I was out will be doing more I suppose.

Its a case of Geordies in Colonia De Sant Jordi, thinking of naming the bar "Little Britain" so any MMA "Ladies" out there are welcome.

Only from you and that indicates something more about your mentality than me being a Geordie.

Chinese Arts are often referred to as Southern or Northen (now I think about it, why not eastern or western?)
There are arguably influences on Japanese arts from Chinese ones and vice versa.
Generally speaking, people think of southern systems as being more 'rooted'.

There are indeed many different forms of Wing Chun out there, owing their syllabi to the lineage they come from.
What is commonly thought of as Wing Chun, is the Ip Man/Yip Man lineage.

Another chap in your area to look out for, is Wai Po Tang.

I found the Jun-Fan stuff pretty good years ago, but I'm sure it has evolved alot since 94. It was mixed as part of our JKD stuff.

Thumbs up Kamon

Trained with Kamon for 2years, in Bristol, thoroughly enjoyable experience, left to join a club closer to home, which also has the added bonus of kali escrima to mix with wing chun.

Who cares what school is what lineage and who is best, if you enjoy it go to it, but shop around first.

Rob

Hi everyone. I am an instructor of Kamon and coincidentally I have been to a seminar with Southern wing chun guys (presuming you are talking about Sifu Kwok Cheung's school).

I have to say the training at both is excellent.

I train at Kamon primarily because it is the closest to me, but also because Sifu Kevin Chan is an extremely good practitioner of kung fu, BJJ, boxing, kickboxing and other styles (that he doesn't always tell us about!)

The classes are down to earth and realistic and you will not be bullied.

Many people think Kamon is a money making machine, but our prices are the cheapest around (another reason why I train there!!)

For £48 per month you can train at any of our classes during the month. As we have 45 schools in London alone, it means that you can pretty much train every day

The instructors train intensely together and at normal classes and usually must have completed at least four/five years minimum and shown aptitude in what they do.

When I first joined I thought that five years isn't long to be an instructor, but when I realised the work involved in attaining that level, it makes you realise how good Kamon is as a school. Sifu Kevin Chan keeps an eye on all his instructors and teaches classes himself (Croydon, Beckenham, Portsmouth, Covent Garden).

I have not trained at Southern Wing chun classes, but the students seem to have a good understanding of wing chun and the head instructor is among the finest in Britain

It's probably best if you get along to both classes and see which one suits you. At Kamon you can sit in and watch a class (no matter your lineage/previous martial arts experience) and ask questions at the end

If you want to know more please give me a private email and I will answer any questions you have

You are an instructor?

On some of the other WC threads you have posted on you imply that you are quite an inexperienced student.

Don't tell me you're both!
