http://www.shaolin-overseas.org/kungfu.html
It's supposed to teach shaolin kungfu or whatever. I'm not very familiar with any of this. Does this place look ok, or should I settle for boxing, for 15$ a year BTW the kungfu is something like 1000 a year. |

Here's as far as I got before I got completely turned off by the website
"Shaolin Kung Fu is the very first martial arts ever created. If you try to trace the roots of all martial arts in existence, you will eventually reach Shaolin, as all martial arts are either a direct or indirect descendent of Shaolin Kung Fu." Then I threw up a little.

It's a nice website, but I would be Leary of any claims to overseas headquarters. All the poser schools in china outside the temple were forced to close down. And the first thought that came to my mind was it has a pretty weak curriculum. The second thought was why have a photo gallery of monks? What does the school look like. If your close by, go and look and check them out. Third thing is never sign a yearly contract, if it's a good school retention is not a problem for them and they should let you pay monthly.
This is nothing like boxing, and you mentioned an interest in the sport. If you want to learn an effective form of self defense check out kempo, it doesn't take years to master and it allows for full contact. Remember choosing a good school is only half the battle, once you make the choice, you have to put forth the effort. Most good kempo schools will also teach ground work or grappling. Good luck |
