Here's an old-school san da match in Chengdu province during the 80's. Not bad for a bunch of dudes who practice qi-gong and forms all day. I don't know anything about any of the instructors; their kicks look pretty good and some of their takedowns took out the fight from their opponents. Their hand techniques, footwork and conditioning look so-so at best. If anyone has any good footage of Chinese martial arts in action (whether good or bad) let's see it.

First two matches: kyokushin karate vs. drunken gong-fu. Karate guys dominate. Last match: kyokushin karate vs. mantis gong fu Mantis guy keeps up with karate guy, but the match gets cut short.

I just watched a black and white clip of two Chinese gong fu masters sparring (along time ago) and it was terrible.
The '86 Chengdu San da clip makes up for it. San da (as a style) and shuajiao are pretty much combat sports, like muay thai and wrestling/judo. It'd be nice to see some shaolin in a real fight (the exhibition was interesting). Alan Orr blasts his opponent back with chain punches in the MMA video. Good on him for making wingchun work.
