Default wing tsjun and tommy dilallo

I just bought some tapes from TRS, by Master Tommy DiLallo.
Fantastic stuff-- great, street functional wing chun, a wing chun that could defeat jeet kune do.

see Tommy's website vforcesfc.com.

His school is in NYC.

IIRC the unique spelling of "wing tsjun" is the trademark of Grandmaster Allan Fong's line, but Mr. D. also has training in the Leung Ting and EBMAS lines.
From what I can see, the Fong wing tsjun is very much like the Moy Yat ving tsun, except that the Fong line is very combative, in that they spend time training police officers, etc., and they cross train in FMA, MT, BJJ, etc.
Moy Yat was my favorite wing chun style, but I would now have to say MYVT is second to Allan Fong and Tommy DiLallo.

I would be happy to respond to questions.

Hahahahaha you crack me up Thai Bri

Who is Master Allan Fong? Do you mean Augustine Fung?

I hate the term streetwise wing chun - wing chun is meant as a streetfighting art. It's why they call it the streetfighting art of Hiong Kong

From what I have seen of Leung Ting he talks a lot of nonsense and is one of the reasons wing chun isn't taken seriously by many good martial art practitioners.

Video clips are never a good representation of the art. We did a clip for Kamon which was only meant as a short demo for new students. I had calls and emails from people saying that they couldn't see the moves etc because it was too fast!! People are lazy. If I want to do a new art, I go down and have a look. I don't rely on clips on the internet!!

Fast doesn't mean good. Anyone can flick their wrists about in a blur. That doesn't mean they get effective weight transference that translates into powerful blows.

Default re:

I posted this info. for people to either use or not use, but I do not wish to
engage in insults or a flame war. It is against my beliefs as a practicing zen-taoist.

I would agree that ANY wing chun is better than most styles of karate, tae kwon do, or kung-fu. Wing chun has sometimes proven ineffective
when a 250-lb man attacks a 120-lb. woman.
I do not believe that all wc is street functional, and if you see how many wc men get destroyed in events like Shidokan and mma, you can see my point.

Allan Fong was a top student of Leung Ting, then went off independent.
DiLallo is mainly in the Fong (wing tsjun) camp but also has training with
Boeptze, Ting, and others, in addition to bjj, military combatives, and a variety of striking styles.

If you want to investigate, call the SFC school or view the dvd's.
If you don't, don't.

That is a bold statement. I teach and practice wing chun religiously, but I would never go so far as to say that it is better than most other styles. As I have said before. You can have a great karate practitioner destroy a wing chun student no problem.

A lot of it depends on environment - if you are sparring and you get a good karate kick to the face, game over.

I enjoy wing chun, because as a big guy it gives me good hand speed, good structure and a good base. But wing chun lacks fitness training (ie you get more of a workout in 10 minutes of BJJ sparring than several lessons of wing chun). It lacks long distance training (ie it is often limited to close range)

I don't agree with martial art bashing - no martial art is poor (it always gives you something). There might be various flaws within a martial art (ie close range fighting in karate, long range fighting in wing chun, etc), but that is why I train in other arts as well.

Thai Bri - I agree that it is better to get one or two powerful hits in than two thousand soft hits. But good wing chun schools emphasise this

Fudgewick or whatever your name is - I couldn't take you seriously after you mentioned Leung Ting

I would agree with you, actually, in that the man fights, the art does not fight. I also think that Leung Ting is not the best wing chun master. However, many students of LT have distinguished themselves. My whole point is, if I lived in NYC, I would study with Tommy, just as I would study
with randy williams if I was in Singapore, and I would study with Francis if I lived in atlanta. Best wishes for your training. And allan fong is the real deal, also.
