Default Traditional Chinese Martial Arts

I'm sold on the concept of relaxed, whipping power in the Chinese martial arts, the full-body thrust power (uprooting) and short power.

Its a bit different from the explosive power you see in combat sports: it seems harder to tell where its coming from and offers more flexibility in that your initial move can blend into and become alot of different moves (trapping, pulling, strikes from completely different angles) without really having to move - adding one of the key arts of fighting (deception) into your attack.

I'm thinking about putting on a new white belt...

Yep. None other than Boar.

His material is combat focused and seems to take a flexible approach to the applications. The only thing missing? The forms where the moves came from and the drills taken from the forms.

I'm looking into the Chinese arts now, doing a little research. On another note, our LPO is also an avid practitioner of the Chinese arts.

I'll keep up the thaiboxing and grappling work to brush up, but its time to explore something not so explored. Something deeper.

Something more complete as a martial arts system.

I've trained/sparred alot in boxing and muaythai and plan on keepint it up, but its time to start diversifying. Gong fu is a complete system in some styles, which not only includes combat applications but methods of rejuvenating the body and mind.

I'm confident whatever I learn in terms of non-H2H combat training will be the best if I can make it through the school, but there's no other martial system that also teaches how to preserve and balance your body/mind.

Gotta run guys...literally lol

If you want to explore something deeper dig a hole and look in it. All TCMA's are is an efficent fighting system based on information gleaned from people who did nothing but fight and study fighting and body mechanics that is all.
All the mysticism is crap. People just don't want to admit that the system is based on such simple and evident mechanics that it can't help but work. The rest is just political and lineage crap that people add to protect their "rice bowls".
We see a lot of that here on these forums and we all see the shit pot it stirs up.

If you wanted to perserve and balance your mind and body then putting on a soldiers togs and trying out for SF is in the complete wrong direction. Why do you think the monks lived in temples. All the conflict of war and fighting are the complete opposite of what you just claimed you wanted to do. Do you want to be a holy scholar monk or do you want to be a martial fighter. These are two very diffrent sides to a coin and as the classics say "You can only have one treasure".

So which is it you want to have some spiritual expierence or do you want to learn how to fight. Modern marketing has misconstrued these two things into one in order to once again protect that "rice bowl" and sell charlatanisms to marks who will buy it. The Dillman's of the world ruin the fact that TCMA's are just a good SDF and fighting system they try to turn it into something greater than it is to appeal to the masses. People like that give real teachers a bad name and create trolls on forums like this who think that everything that has to do with TCMA's and everyone that has to do with them is full of crap. That is why some of the best sources and I say that in plural have been run off this forum.

I believe you misunderstood what I meant by deeper; something that also helps build the mind and rejuvinate the body from hard external training. Should have used the word 'complete'.

I'm not interested in mysticism. I want to continue to learn how to fight.

Default COMBATIVES the truth hurts.

Well if you want to learn how to fight then let me point you in the direction of the most blasphemous term on this forums.

COMBATIVES. WWII combatives formed from taking Kung-FU and Japanese MA's and combining them with western fighting skills. It took the long involved process of learning several styles and condensed it. It gives you the information you need to know and the skill sets you need in a short period of time without all the political and familial bullshit mixed in.

Applegate and his crew learned these arts and took what was needed to survive and end a conflict quickly and created COMBATIVES out of them. I placed a link to the history in the future of training thread. Check it out it's all there.

Regardless of what other people may feel or think it stands up for itself. If you really do go into SF this is what they teach you will be based on. It's not fancy and it doesn't look cool on youtube but it has been proven on battle fields across the world and has with stood the test of time. It is an ever evolving system. There are only two kinds of people in a real combat the quick and the dead . The 5 minute Jackie Chan fight is bullshit and will get you killed. Fighting is and always has been an ugly thing that "Civilized" society frowns upon.

So if you want to learn to fight for real then Tom learn COMBATIVES, because in a real life or death situation it has been proven to be the fastest most effective way to stay alive. Even the Germans after finding a military manual off an Allied soldier started their own combative programs, guess even they thought the enemy had a good idea and remember they were the master race in their eyes.

I've never been against Combatives. Never once on this forum have I stated anything negative about it. And I know the Jackie Chan bullshit is fake, KOTF. That's common sense.

I've only seen about half a dozen gong fu movies my entire life.

PS- I processed at MEPS a few months ago. Got a waiver approved. They've put me in EOD, as it seems they've overbooked SEAL candidates. My times and scores on all but one event are 'competitive' for SEAL PST.
