Kung Fu is one of the most effective fighting systems on the planet, (in my opinion). In a good solid style, almost every technique works in real combat. It is just that all techniques take practice to master and to work for the martial artist. This practice takes time and a great deal of two man sparring forms and application. To make kung fu work for someone and become one of the most detailed, complex, powerful, and useful martial arts on the planet, it needs to be studied and developed for that persons build strengths etc. This takes many years of hard work and it seems that in our Western culture with the fast get it now mentality such mastery is sledom achieved. Then the ones who represent Kung Fu do not present it properly and kung fu gets a bad name. I have seen this many times when i have visited tournaments, the Kung Fu fighters will do forms and have stances etc but when they come to sparring (the so called point sparring) they seem to give it all up and become kick boxers. This point sparring, in my opinion wrecks their form fighting. I know that it becomes a sport, but many have not seen real kung fu two man sparring or real kung fu combat for that matter. So most of the negative undersanding about kung fu I believe comes from a watered down sport competition demonstration of kung fu, or rather kick boxing. I teach my students to fight in form and wth style and stances and proper hand positioning etc. from the beginning. This takes longer but in the end is better, in my opinion and experience.

![]() | TC, you remind me of this Chinese guy that I met 9 yrs ago. In a very thick Chinese accent, he said to me, "You know Jet Li? His kung fu... it is real!" I thought to myself, "What a dumb-fucker this guy is." Then I responded in a mock Chinese accent (The only reason that I did so was because Chinese people are so damn proud of anything and everything Chinese, as if nothing of any other origin is any good at all.), "You know UFC? Jet Li go in UFC and get ass kicked, hard!" To which he had no good response, kinda like you. |

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There you go. Do they have to wear big rubber noses and funny hats during training? Oh, do you teach them the technique where you pull a handkerchief out of your pocket and it just keeps coming out longer and longer? That's a classic.

Your point would have been made better without the bigotry.

your confronted with another fighter, he closes the distance: can you imediatly eye gouge him?.....maybe but the guy would have to be blind, in which case attacking the eyes wouldnt be as rewarding, so NO In order to get that close you need to get in a clinch, or take them to the ground or get into some sortve grapple position, somthing UFC fighters for example deal with very often and with a resisting oponent and in most cases an above normal strength compared to your average joe bloggs down the road, Im pretty certain a extremly large contingent of kung fu fighters do not have regular fights with a above normal strength people (which are fully resistant and are trying to take your head off) where do you some how draw the conclusion that just because a kung fu fighter can rip a guys eyes out that he can some how do the same to some one who has had better training and can just as easily rip your eyes out? and most hardout kung fu fighters arent even interested in competition fighting, due to the values they are taught with training so why they do they care if someones saying that a ufc fighter is the ultimate fighter? if they were truely better and were confident in there ability they would have no need to feel threatened or offended but what other people are saying.
