Screening is a big part of MMA, everyone has to go through a test. That is why most gung fu practitioners don't enter. I personally know a San soo guy who tried to get into the UFC, when screening came I told him to look more like a boxer, but unfortunately, he didn't do that. He used crude techniques and I remember he hooked the guy's mouth and tore it up. Right there he was kicked out of the event. MMA is more of a kickboxing/grappling event and it is a sport!! There's a lot of things people don't know esp. what goes behind the events, i could go on and on, but hey, it's still fun to watch.
One more thing, during the mid nineties, a lot of the matches were fixed, and so theywere told how they would start, and how the match would end. I'm not gonna mention any names, that's just something for everyone to know.

interesting. It sounds like you were actually part of the process. If you can't give specifics, can you say why this was done? I mean was obvious they did not want strong talent in begining as most of the fighetrs didn't have a history Marcos Ruas I remeber them saying...."we know nothing about him but he is a legend in Brazil" Okkkkkkk that's real WWF the UFC was the first time the ninjutsu guy steve jemin ever fought

I know that early in the UFC when the Gracies basically said to the world noone can beat us and no style is good unless they challege us. I think Paul de thurus (sp) penjat silat stylist was very verbal about the fact the gracie would not let him into the UFC nor would they accept any of his challege matches. justy curious do you have any info about that truth /fiction

Yeah, I heard that as well... Another incident involve Benny "the Jet." I was reading a Rob Kaman interview and he mentioned how the Gracies kept saying they invited himself, Benny among other guys: Gene Labelle... However, no one remembers getting notified of such a thing...
