I want to learn a martial art but didn't know where to post this thread. I want to learn a martial art but don't know which one to learn
heard Juut Keen Do (think how spelt) is good. I'm a 16 yr old guy who lives in the UK. Which is best martial art to learn to get fit and defend myself against local idiots who try to beat me up cause I don't talk like them or walk like them. And would books or videos/dvds be better? Thanks for any help people give me. ![]() |

Keywords for your self defence from local thugs,
Boxing (western), grappling and Geoff Thompson = good Majority of MA clubs (no metter what style) = bad Try to find a place that is not obsessed with belts or grades, but practise realism and 'direct' techniques (no 'flouncy flouncy kickee highhieee yah kong kuc chop' rubbish). Seriously self defense is more than fighting, look for the stuff that you think you could pickup quickly and apply when panicked. Oh and come to the Richard Dimitri Seminar next month in London and learn 'the shredder' technique (only £65 on the door).

Melon,
The best martial art is not necessarily one martial art. You need to look into each style via the net or books and study the techniques each style applies. A taller thinner person would be more likely to take tae kwon do or tang soo do, maybe kickboxing, while a shorter thicker person might want to take the fight to the ground with a style like hapkido, jiu jitsu, and grapple. You need to research and apply the techniques that are best suited for your body type. But dont just listen to me, because even the smallest guy could outwrestle a big one. It is mainly in how you WANT to defend yourself against another. Good Luck in overcoming. Dcrafty1420. |

What all i am basicly going to tell you is to be open minded and look at many different styles till you find the one that fits you best. I myself like akido, jeet kune do, and have tryd kempo karate but not to sure about it
But have fun with it don't make it seem like there is nothing better to do. Make it a way of life |
