Why am I getting MSN advertisements links with double underlined keywords in the threads? the letters are gold or orange and it detracts from the forum experience IMO...Somebody getting paid to link to it? Or is it spam?
Spyware? New features? Virus? On a side note, some of my e-buddies are off to BLADE this weekend in Atlanta... Kinda slow on the knife forum but should be lots of cool pictures when they get back.

I just read this thread: hurt back Let's see, danfagella's post has a link on the word "passion" that goes to a porn site... treelizard's post has a link to an adult singles network on the word "friends." So, how do you guys feel about this? I realize the forum needs to be paid for one way or another, but you have links to HARDCORE PORN SITES embedded in people's posts!! Personally, I don't appreciate it. Not to mention it now takes twice as long for a page to load because of this and I keep getting script errors on my firefox browser.

I think Tim is working with it. So it may take a bit to get the kinks worked out.
If you have concerns about the program you might want to put them in the forum feedback section, and or PM Tim about it. You may also want to let Tim know it's creating errors for you.

There are five links to adds on this thread and one is on under my user name on the word "Date" as in join date... Three in stabby chicks post alone!
I thought they were only in the first post of a thread but I'm wrong again... So far the words Date, Buddies, Passion, Friends and Firefox Browser are all linked to adds in this thread.

Excessive Force suggested we start a thread here to discuss this new forum feature. Here is a link to the original thread started by Tant01:
What's up with... I am restating my concerns here. Some of these ads were linking to hardcore porn sites. Perhaps this has been fixed by now. I still find it extremely annoying. I don't remember giving anyone permission to use my words for advertising, although I'm sure it's buried in the "Terms of Service" somewhere. I do not like this new feature. It detracts from the forum experience. I'm pretty sure Danfagella wasn't talking about "hardcore pics of adult singles" when he said "passion." Not to mention it now takes more than twice as long for a page to load and I'm getting script errors on my firefox browser. I didn't mind when the forum started putting ads in the middle of threads. Those were obviously unrelated to people's posts. But what's next? Those auto ads that drive across your screen that you have to chase down to close? So how does everyone else here feel about this new form of advertising?

While I suggested you bring your concern about these ads to Tim and use this section of the forum to do it, I also want to make the following statement
Hosting a forum such as this can be not only expensive but time consuming. Tim has hosted this forum for many years and for that many of the posters here should be grateful. I did not mean to imply that anyone should attempt to tell Tim how to run HIS forum. At the end of the day it is his forum to do with as he pleases. I have always found Tim to be open to suggestion and willing to listen to concerns, however please remember that we are all guests here myself and Mr. Brewer are no exceptions. So that being said, please list your concerns in case he is not already aware of them, but I think this should be done in as respectful manner as possible. ExcessiveForce

I can't be sure of the correlation, and I could be technically mistaken, but it sure seems that the forum is slower since these things, and they have caused my comp to freeze up several times now.
And if they make the use of the forum less likely, then they are self-defeating as a source of advertising revenue. I agree that the site owner absolutely should make any and all profit on the site that he can, considering all the free-loaders like me just enjoying it for free!

I also have experienced a slowing of service. I predict a future where every word I type is cross-linked in some way to something I have no connection with, implying in some subtle way my approval of that product. But what can be done? I have no idea the costs involved with this site, but believe Tim to be an honest individual, and so hope he is holding to a minimum these advertisements. Just call it product placement, I guess. Perhaps every time someone types muay Thai or krabi-krabong it will link to Thaiboxing.com or chalambok.com? Oh yeah, that's right, I haven't even begun to remotely earn a return on my investment so the rich will get richer, whether they can teach or not.
