I don't think the heavy-duty mask were specially adapted. If I'm not mistaken, you can buy them like that, possibly a 3 weapon mask. Or you can dip a regular mask in adamantium.

Has anyone ever used Hockey-type masks for full-contact stickfighting?
Just wondering how well that would work.
Also,Does anyone know how to make the Heavy-duty Fencing Mask that Eric Knaus made for heavier weapons?

The grappling arts imply most fights end up on the ground. The striking arts imply all fights start standing up. The clinching arts imply the clinch can stop the striker from striking, and the grappler from taking it to the ground. The weapon arts imply the they can stop the unarmed man. A complete martial art implies any fight can go anywhere...be ready and able to go everywhere.
I have used Lacross and Roller hockey masks for light sparring with padded sticks. I have also used the three weapon fencing masks. I have purchased two from a Play It Again Sports ( A used sporting goods store) for around $30 each. I live in a college town at the end of every semester when the funds are tight the students sell their sporting goods. Most are used for one semester before the get bored with fencing.
Also Try Kombat Instruments I believe they sell fencing masks for fairly competitive prices.
You can also try E-bay. About two weeks ago they had at least 10 used masks for sale.

I just checked the Kombat Instruments site and the new fencing masks are $75, but they are heavy duty.
