Sagasa and Hagibis are 2 of the offical styles of Bakbakan Intl. You can read more about them at the Bakbakan website click the the Fighting Arts link on the left navigator http://www.bakbakan.com.

In Sagasa the training is done in rounds. Alot of the training is centred around the repitition of the Series basically short forms which are repeated over and over. The other large component of training is sparring. Hagibis is a grappling style the focus more is on stand up as opposed to ground and naked throws as opposed to clothing based, like Judo. It has alot of components as seen in other Filipino grappling styles commonly refered to as dumog in the west, (arms drags and such) . The dumog or buno in Hagibis comes from Bikol region if I remember correctly, and in addition many of the techinques are derived from Siniwali.

In Mark Wiley's book there is information on both in the sections on Christopher Ricketts and Rey Galang.

Thanks for answering, I don't have the book at hand right now...
Does Sagassa take a lot from Ngo Cho Kun kung fu? Do you know if Hagibis comes from the arts practiced by the Cimmarones of Bikol?

Oh another question if you don't mind as you are a member of bakbakan... Is the sinawali of Bakbakan different from the sinawali practiced Kalis Illustrissimo? I recently started studiying Kalis Illustrissimo but wasn't shown the sinawali yet and wonder if it is interesting to learn the sinawali from the bakbakan book as I won't see my instructors before september.....

Maraming Salamat.

There is influence from Ngo Cho Kun Tao via Tophers involvement in Goju Ryu (Ngo Cho is the predisessor of Goju Ryu) and also directly from Alex Co. How much I couldn't tell you, I have zero knowledge of Goju Ryu and a very limited knowledge of Ngo cho. Also I am not a hard core Sagasa practioner.

Yes, they are different. The Bakbakan Sinawali system (as taught by Rey Galang) stems from the original Sinawali from Pampanga, its is probably more acurate to say doble baston in regards to Ilustrisimo Orhenial( T. Diego and C Ricketts). Principles and concepts of Tantang are the same, teaching delievery system are different. The Bakbakan Sinawali system is more structured and has different naming convention

Who is your Ilustrisimo teacher.

I am a beginner in Kalis Illustrissimo, GM A. Diego introduced me to this system.
I couldn't learn too much as I also train in other systems whenever I return to the Philippines.

In my opinion the Illustrissimo style is one of the finest arnis systems I've ever seen....
Did you learn the art in the Philippines?

Initially yes. I was introduced to Master Topher Ricketts by Rolly Maximo when I lived there in 97. Through them I met Master Rey Galang.

I have studied other arnis systems but prefer Ilustrisimo.
