Is there anyplace to learn Filipino drumming? Tapes, videos, web pages, etc? I have dreams of drumming for the kali class some day.

This is old post, but no one responded, so....
I don't know if we have any "drums" per say, in the Philipines. We definetly have percusive gongs. You might want to research kulintang teachers in your area, he's outside of your state but Danongan S. Kalanduyan is considered the foremost expert in the United States. http://www.kulintang.com/

at our gym I try to rotate everyone off on and off the instruments, and have taken the methodology of music within capoeira which we call it the pitak. The whole class circle while two spar, and three play the instruments at different intervals and speeds. brings a lot of fun and interactivity to the group I teach Pacific Dance as well so we use the slit log drum, base drum, and conga and djimbe when we laro laro or play.. try it, or better yet, buy one, and practice! eventually youy WILL get better. good luck.
