Hey All,
I have found several stickfighting tournaments that are going on in the next year but none that are definitely on for this fall. Has anyone heard of any on the east coast? Apparently there is one in October that is posted on http://www.swacom.com/ but from the looks of it nothing is set in stone. I also know of the Kali World Council doing a 2nd event this October but again, they have yet to confirm anything. Are there any others out there that I am missing? Gruhn

The tentative date for my tounament is October 22nd. However, there are still some formalities being worked out. The next Kali World Council event will be in April 2006. Yours in the Arts, John G. Jacobo www.swacom.com |

John,
Thank you for the update. Quote:
The Maryland Open's rules were great last year except for the time limit on the ground which Sled Dog didn't really worry to much about It made the fights a heck of a lot better and made way for some great fights. I don't mean to impede on your rules in any way, just thought I would ask.Let Me Know! Gruhn

Hi Ryan,
There will be absolutely NO empty-hand, kicking or grappling allowed. The reason I chose to do this is because contrary to what you witnessed, I have seen once too many times poor weapon skills in those type of venues. Quite often it becomes a sloppy brawl or a grappling event. I want people to showcase the weapon skills in the art of Eskrima, Kali & Arnis. If I could, I would opt for fencing mask, a cup and nothing else. People learn to respect powerful strikes when they are hit on their bare hand or exposed limb. Someone who utilizes effective footwork and counterstriking will easily make someone think twice before closing range. There are several reasons for the WEKAF helmet but primarily I look at fighter safety and liability especially since this is my first time hosting a stickfighting event. However, should 2 fighters wish/agree to use fencing masks I will ok it as long as they have some experience. I also intend on providing / regulating the sticks and they will not be twigs. BTW...I heard from the grapevine that Alan Sachetti is supposed to host "The Ultimate Stickfighting" event in November as well. This will certainly give fighters a chance to choose their venue. I am new to this site. Not much of a internet junky - wife, three kids, deployments, gym, and teaching keep me very busy.
I recently moved to Jacksonville, NC. Active duty combat corpsman with 3/2 makes it hard for me to have continuous training. I have few dedicated students but they are also military and deploy often. My long time students and training partners are all back in CA. I have been wanting to attend the Dog Brothers events but timing seems to screw things up for me. I love realistic training and stick to the same rules as Sijo Emperado set years ago, "Class isn't over until I see blood". Not trying to sound like a tough guy - I just like reality. If your going to get in a fight your gonna get hit (unless your very lucky or the guy is way out of his league). I am not looking to try and hurt someone or get hurt but s*#t happens sometime. I believe in respecting your training partners at all times. If there is someone out there that wants to share knowledge - hit me back here or at www.emperado.com PS I am a Nat'l EMT and combat vet corpsman (FMF) - I believe if we as warriors have the ability to cause injuries and illness we should also know how to fix them. Oh, and I can suture pretty good too... haha ![]()

I strongly recommend joining Dog Brothers. I am a member and Group Leader for a group in PA. I have yet to get out to a gathering bt plan to at some point. This is my reasons for wanting everything allowed in my fights! Gruhn
