Indeed. Tricks of the trade...

To add, do you recall a recent discussion we had about silat tactics?
It's nothing new or even restricted to silat or knife fighting really. You seem to have a grip on the idea of deception but lets just take a look at some other examples, eh? We all know the adage that the hand is quicker than the eye. The magician seems to deceive the eye, but this is not true. The hand is not quicker than the eye. The magician actually beguiles the eye. In war, an opponent tries to beguile his adversary's perception. What appears factual might actually be an artful creation with which to convince the adversary that it is real. Properly understood, these principles can be used to assess the battlefield, to assess intelligence reports, and to defeat deception attempts. In Africa during World War II, German bombers were led astray by an English deception plan that included mimicking Alexandria harbor. Creating the illusion of the actual city, lit by false house and ship lights, British officer Jasper Maskelyne, a professional magician, deceived the deadly German bombers into dropping their bombs 8 miles from Alexandria The bombers were following a radio beam that they knew was accurate but the desire to believe something is true can cause the denial of confirmatory observations. There are a number of examples of operations during wartime that directly attack the perceptions for the sole purpose of misdirection. See : http://www.lexnotes.com/misc/johnboyd.htm In the Judo game we learn straight away how one attempt to throw can be used to set up another throw. The first attack becomes a feint to trick the opponent into position for another technique.

All warriors should understand deception is our finest tool. Mindset is an an essential part of fighting. keep your thoughts clear while clouding your opponenets view of the situation. I much prefer to be underestimated prior to conflict
