I wouldn't go to Felix or trust him. I have it under very good authority that he pulled some rather hairy and underhanded shit (pardon my language) with the fine people at Cold Steel. I won't get into details but I understand that it involved a rather large sum of money.

I'm not completely aware of what happened but if you want to contact people who know you can reach them at the following addresses. I'm sure they'll provide details on Mr. Valencia and everything that he stands for.

Also, Ron Balicki is a Lameco instructor. At the very least, he could probably put you in touch with a Lameco instructor who can be trusted. You can reach him at the following address:

Good training.

Can anyone tell me what a second hand rumor about Valencia has to do with whether he has a school or training group. I hate the fact that cowardly jerks spread second hand gossip about someone they don't know, take it as gospel, and would never have the balls to confront the individual themselves. Whatever the deal was with Cold Steel and if it went bad or not has nothing to do with the original question!

I accidentally stumbled across this forum randomly engine searching for something else. I felt that it was best for me to sign up and respond, because his name should not be trashed by those who don't know him personally. Statements should not be made about someone without talking to both sides. I know Felix Valencia personally, he is a very good instructor, and a friend. I meet with him once a week to train. And he's done alot for me. He's very down to earth and supportive of helping his fighters develop into the best fighter they can be. He trained me for Dog Brothers, which I fought in June 05, and did very well. If you'd like to get in contact with him, and speak to him personally, email me at shannmackenzie@yahoo.com. Have a good day.

Hi guys,

I hope that everyone is well and that all are keeping challenged by their daily training. I just saw this post and had to share my opinion and weigh in on the matter.

First of all what ever happened between Felix Valencia and Mr. Lynn Thompson (Cold Steel) is their affair, and does not involve any of us here to any degree. Quite honestly there is none among us here that have not had an indifferent word or disagreement with our peers or associates at some point in time. Regardless of what became of Felix`s role as Instructor to Mr. Thompson it is in the past now and quite honestly it reflects very little on Felix`s ability to teach or train those willing to learn from him.

I have known Felix since 1992 when I was first welcomed into the Lameco Eskrima Brotherhood in Punong Guro Edgar G. Sulite`s backyard in east Los Angeles. In those early years during our frequent gatherings (Lameco) I had the pleasure to engage in more than a few very passionate fights with Felix as well as my other Brothers in our Fraternal family of Lameco Eskrima. Felix always brought his best game and fought hard, he expected the same from whomever he was facing.

Granted, Felix may have formed and followed his own vision of Lameco Eskrima and evolved in accordance to how he felt the system would have developed but none of us can forget that he received his basic foundation and fundamental training in Lameco Eskrima from a very demanding Instructor; Edgar G. Sulite the Founder of Lameco Eskrima himself.

Many of us whom were fortuneate enough to be certified as Instructors and recognized as Standard Bearers of Lameco Eskrima under the hand of Punong Guro Sulite still teach his system as it was taught to us. We choose to propagate this knowledge to others as it was more commonly passed onto us in a less commercial environment reaching out to the warrior in training on a more personal level as is found in a garage or in a backyard, as you will not find many schools teaching Lameco Eskrima publically catering to large masses. For the few worthy souls in search of this knowledge there are a few of us remaining very loyal to our mentor and in most cases, although it may not be easy to reach us, if you stay the course and dedicate yourself to the cause eventually you will find an opportunity to train this system and witness first hand its no frills simplistic approach and devastating effect in combat.

Get in touch with Felix and allow him the opportunity to shape you into a warrior, I seriously doubt that you will regret reaching out to him. Good luck, and good training. Ciao.

Guro Dave Gould.

Great. I'm happy for you. It wasn't second hand to me. It came right from the horse's mouth. If you would like to get it from the same place, contact Ron and ask him about it.

Personally, I tend to be tolerant of all types of people, even the ignorant ones who jump to conclusions about someone without knowing the entire situation.

Default Give me a break

School kids. I can not understand how MAXX thinks his shit does not stink. Who died and left you in charge. So you heard it from Ron. When Ron was mad at Felix or another time. Now that Ron is "in" with Cold Steel, maybe he has the real story now. Did you read the Cold Steel Website? News? They have the guy that stold their money. Facts need to be straight. This community is too small and heads are too big. Maybe I do not know you MAXX, but do you know me? or Felix. Why even state something like that anyway, is it taking students from your pocketbook, does it make you a better fighter, I doubt it, and is it good for LAMECO. Ron Balicki says something to me I take it as it being the truth. I understand why you might think the way you do, but to put it in an open Forum, I am not sure Ron would agree with doing that either. I have trained with Ron, Felix and Shannon. This is a brotherhood that PG Sulite would be rolling in his grave if he saw it being ripped apart by petty crap. If you would like to know the real story ask the horses mouth ,do not listen to an ass.

the feud! this is what the FMAs are known for...remember all those stories you like to read about in the books, magazine and internet sites? if the FMa did not have rivalrys and feuds, we would not have arnis as effective as today! dont be afraid of it brothers, its your DNA as fighters, we can't all get along, this isnt sunday school.

but Maxx, you are in the wrong place for this kind of talk. chismis is for women, not fighters. what do you know about valencia's fighting skill? do you realize if you dont like this guy, you help him more by talking bad about him? you want to convince people dont study with him, then you convince us that his martial arts is not very good.

now, if ron balicki and valancia are brothers from the same teacher, i hope he is not the type who will tell a total stranger bad things about his classmate. what does that say about his teachers choice in students? family business should not be put out in public like dirty laundry. look at the masters, MOF, i know one who really doesnt like another master at all (the master is now dead), but he always said that other master was a good fighter. when i met leo giron, who had a long time feud with angel cabales, and i dont know if they liked each other or not, but he told me and my uncle, angel cabales was a good fighter. GM ernesto presas shared a building with a rival school (yaw yan) i am sure he did not like them, but he would tell us, they are good fighters, but dont go up there. i never expected anything different from them because they have too much to offer, than to waste time with gossip. the good only time to talk bad about another teacher is right before you kick his ass. after you do it (or if you fail), tradition is, you speak only of the skill you witness, sometimes even give him more credit than he deserve. or, you say, "i fought him, but no comment". this goes a long way, and both of you keep your respect.

if you want to disrespect him in the open, that is okay too, but make sure you have enough money in the bank when he comes to cash the check (wink)

when you talk bad about things that dont matter (he was asking where this guys arnis), it only makes you look bad.

Just "Stumbled" on to this site. so this is Obviously my first post.

I have known Felix for a number of years, and consider him a Friend.

I have trained with him, and and 'Hosted Classes."

The Cold Steel thing is TOTAL BS,

He is not only a GREAT INSTRUCTOR, but also is very honest, humble, and a all over Great Guy.

Felix was "Screwed Over" by more than a couple of Companies becuase of his lack of Business Acumen & Trust of Others.

He is a True Man of Honor. BTW - I know the REAL Cold Steel Story!
