I have the Safekeeper II - the updated model of the push dagger shown at the end of that clip. It's phenomenal. Compact enough to be caried just like a folding knife, and sharp enough to do damned near anything. Serious, serious tool.

This is our Desperado! Still that is funny kind of marketing, slashing meat and cardboard. And that is made with proud attitude. If the marketing must be like that, then not so owerweigted persons might do the job better. Knife is ok. marketing is, how can I say, amusing.

Lynn Thompson is the guy demonstrating the knife in that video. he's the President of Cold Steel, and he is, without question, a true and verifiable badass with a blade. No matter what he looks like, he can use blades of all shapes and sizes in virtually all ranges. Being effective at what you do doesn't require that you have a rock-solid physique. If you think it does, look at an offensive line in the next football game on TV. 6'6" tall and 330 pounds ain't exactly "solid," but they play hard for the full game, and they are strong, fast, and effective.
Don't sell a guy short based on looks, and never underestimate someone based on physique. It's a good way to get stomped in a fight. |

No underestimating. The point Was, that sleeker person might sell better than fat one. Still those videos are funny, cutting cardboard, meat or punkturing car doors. It doesn´t need Cold steel to do that. Super size me, I can always use the knife.
If someone stab me with the knife it doesn`t matter is he thin or fat. But in the marketing there might be a difference between those. |

Maybe. But people in the know understand who Lynn Thompson is, and they appreciate the fact that the owner of the company is out there demontrating his own designs and products himself. It certainly gives the company more credibility in my eyes when the company President says, "Let me personally show you."
Besides, consider the other side of your argument. If you got someone out there who looked toned and men and ready to fight, what message would it send? That a guy who can already fight can use this knife? Don't you think maybe people who are out of shape and would prefer tools like knives for self-defense might identify better with Thompson than some martial arts model? And finally, while the tests in the video may be nothing special, I can promise you that you'd be hard-pressed to find a production knife in the same prioce range that is as robust and durable as a Cold Steel blade. Watch the rest of one of the Proof videos if you can find it. They run some seriously stressful tests on those knives, and they definitely pass muster. |

I agree with this. Looks don't mean a thing; learned this when I first stepped foot into a dojo as a teenager....the hard way.

Cold steel is making good knives, some are their own design, some are not. I was talking about marketing, not fighting. My point was in marketing the cold steel video. Point was not that who is looking ready to fight or not. Fighting is different than marketing. As I said it doesn`t matter who stab me with the knife fat or thin, long or short. But again in marketing it might not be the same. Dont mix the marketing and L.C. Thompsons Fighting ability, because I was never questioning Thompsons Fighting ability. Marketing only. I have seen the video, I even have it, and the video is what I`m talking about.

Understood, and appreciated. Still, I have to think there's some value to showing an "average guy" type using the tools instead of some ultra-fit lean and mean killer you wouldn't even expect to need a knife.
Anyway, the company seems to be doing alright. Maybe the marketing department knows something we don't? |
