I'd like to do some FMA training in Toronto but I'm not sure what's available/best. I found these through some searching:
http://www.vacmartialarts.com/index.html http://www.arniscanada.ca/index.html http://www.trinityjunfan.com/ http://www.combatscience.net/ http://www.kalideleon.com/profile.htm <----- This one looks the most interesting and is closer to where I live. Another option I have is to go with a JKD Concepts school in Toronto? Thanks for any assistance! |

I'm one of the instructors at Trinity. Our focus is more Jun Fan and JKD Concepts than it is Kali. If Kali is your primary interest than I would not recommend us as first choice. Your first class is free though, so feel free to come and give us a try. Were a friendly bunch :-)
For a Kali focussed class I highly recommend you check out Guro Jun at Kali DeLeon (the one near where you live). He's about the best there is in Toronto for Kali. You will have to go through an interview process, but Jun is pretty friendly towards those with an honest desire to learn. The Arnis Canada group is headed by a very skilled Arnis man, but their focus is geared to WEKAF competition and is more of a kids class (from what I've seen). I've seen and been impressed by Rober Cinco of VAC Martial Arts and his Balintawak style, but if Jun is closed to you than Robert is pretty much the other end of the city. Laura Holmes of Combat Science is a very friendly person, but I've never really trained with her. --------------------- Best recommendation is to actually do a trial class with whoever will let you. Get a feel for the place and see if its somewhere you look forward to returning to. If you can get into Jun's class I think you'll get the best exposure to Kali you can get in Toronto. - Shawn |

Badger Jones, who heads up Young Forest, is a very old friend of mine. He is an excellent instructor who teaches a modern hybrid method of Kali that has its basis in Modern Arnis and is very influenced by the Dog Brothers approach. It is a small but friendly club that has been around for a long time. If you are looking for flash and a fancy health club type setting its not your thing, but if you are looking for a bunch of guys who are interested in testing truth in combat its worth checking out.
You can read a review of a workshop Badger did for us here in Toronto a few weeks ago on the forum section of our website http://trinityjunfan.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=161 As always, your best bet is to give them a call and go check out a class. Shawn |

Guro Jay DeLeon and Guro Jun DeLeon are different people. Guro Jay is not in the Toronto area, Guro Jun is. Just thought I'd point that out in case of any error in understanding.
I know OF Guro Jay, but don't know him. Shawn |
