Default flute as an escrima stick?

i'm sure this isn't a new idea, but could a flute be used as an escrima stick? if so which material is best: bamboo/wood/other? I'm thinking of getting a 6 holed flute, not the normal one that kids play in highschool because the keys on there seem to get in the way and it is in 3 pieces.

has anyone bought a flute for practicing martial arts before? Any recommendations on where to buy one that can withstand some self-defense use as well as have decent sound?

This is one of those posts where I'm really not sure if you are taking the piss or not. If you aren't, then no offence intended. If you are then congrats cos its funny. All these crazy weapons ideas: pens, flutes.....I'm currently working on adapting my penis into a pogo stick and that might be a way of escaping a beating.

Seriously fella. If you live in a country/state/region that legally allows the carry of weapons then find out the parameters of that law and carry the most effective one accordingly. I'd bet a fairly hefty wager that it won't be an escrima stick flute. Alternatively, if the law on weapons carrying is very tight like there in the UK, have a really solid base in empty hand combat. People get too tied up in weapons: knives, sticks, pens.......flutes. I'd rather be in shape and have two good feet, two good fists, two good elbows, two good knees and a smart, tested head on my shoulders.

If you want to play the flute then play the flute. If you want to fight then learn to fight.

I actually picked up a book at a thrift store, that talks about using a flute as a weapon. it was 50 cents and it was martial arts related so I bought it. When I get a chance I'll look up the title and post it for you.

What are you going to do with it? Pummle them with a solo performance of "Thick As A Brick?"

Sorry. Couldn't resist. I don't many chances to randomly use a Jethro Tull reference.

Sweet Dreams on that one, might as well use a Broadsword. If you show up to a fight with a flute looking like a Minstrel in the Gallery, playing Songs from the Wood, your opponent is likely to die laughing gasping for Locomotive Breath or beat you to a pulp with fists like a Steel Monkey, all in a all a real Bungle in the Jungle.

ha!

Good one, Paco. When I read "playing Songs from the Wood" I let out a loud uncontrollable guffaw. I laughed so loud I blew my Aqualung clear to Budapest.

Here is the title of the book.

Fatal Flute and Stick forms by Grandmaster Chan Poi

Says it's from Wah Lum Kung Fu

It was published from Unique Publications in 1985.

The book itself seems of limited value, but it might be what you are looking for.
