I was wondering if anyone could give me the characteristics of the Doce Pare Escrima. For instance what are they known for single, double stick, espada y dage, blade, empty hands. I know most FMA's encompass all of these traits, but what are they known for. How effective is the style? Thanks in advance.

Well, the branch of Doce Pares that I've seen the most of is GM Cacoy's Eskrido variation. It's specialty would be single stick - and, past that, I'd say locking, disarming, and throwing. It does also have all the other aspects, too, but, IMO, that's its specialty.
Traditional Doce Pares, I believe, is well known for its espada y daga work but I'm not sure if they consider it a specialty. I think, though, from what I've seen, it'd either be single stick or espada y daga. All the Doce Pares that I've seen has been effective. Mike |

My limited knowledge of Doce Pares leads me to believe that is a very well rounded "multistyle" art, not really specializing in one specific weapon or range.
Any practitioners feel free to correct me. The arts I have studied are Doce Pares influenced. Kiwi |

I studied modern Doce Pares before, I find it very stick oriented.... other strong point are disarming, throwing.....
The impression I got is that it is not really adapted to heavy blades, but I could be wrong as I only studied it only two months in Cebu... San Miguel escrima concentrates on espada y daga and is maybe closer to the old Doce Pares, I think it is taught by Momoy Caniette. |
