Default Sprinters & long-distance runners

Do you think that it is possible for someone to be a very good sprinter but a not so good runner when it comes to long distances?
responses are appreciated

Absolutley. The is a big difference btween running the 100m and 200m vs 800m. The training is comletely differnt conditioning for sprinters and longdistance runners.

you can tell they train differently just by looking at them. 100m sprinters have a good deal of muscle, but long distance runners have arms and legs like sticks.

800 M is not really long distance; I think its considered middle distance.

Anything 1 mile or longer is considered long-distance. Yeah sprinters have a lot of muscle, while distance runners are thin and sinewy.

high strength (speed, sprinting) and high endurance (long distance running, high reps) are almost mutally exclusive.

is it possible to require a resonable level of both, i know it would depend upon your genetic make-up. Surely it must possible to be fast and a have a good standard of endurance?

It's not possible. You have say 100% "capacity", you can divide it up however you want. 20% speed, 80% endurance, or 50/50, 30/70, 90/10, doesn't matter.

The thing is your muscle fibers, white fibers and red fibers. You've only got so many of each naturally, and you can train them to be either way.

But if you train your body to act like red fibers, you're not gonna be able to just have white fiber capabilities. It's not about training or mindset or anything, its simply muscle fibers, and how each fiber is only good at one thing. You have to decide what mix of red and white you want.
