Question Wanting a good bodyweight program

Hello everyone.

I am FormerSensei. I say that because I had studied Shaolin Goju for a time in the San Diego Area. I loved it. I achieved the rank of Second Dan before life got in the way (kids, getting out of the Marines and moving to AZ, etc.) I haven't practiced in over six years and I'm constantly kicking myself in the head (well, actually, I can't reach that high any longer) for being so stupid.

Anyway, I have all full intentions of getting back into to studying something, probably along the lines of ju-jitsu or shotokan (Shotokan because I already have some experience in this art because Shaolin Goju is similar) once I move the family closer to Tucson, Arizona (I live near the border and there isn't much in the way of a good dojo in the area).

Okay, now to finally get to the reason for this post. I've been lifting weights for about three years. I've made some excellent gains, but I'm afraid I'm not even close to the shape I was in once when I was a martial arts student. However, I'm the kind of guy who needs a regiment made out for me or at least a lot of suggestions. I want to get into the best fighting shape I can get into using bodyweight exercise as well as good weightlifting exercises. I am a family man and I work about 10 hours a day, so I don't have six hours a day to dedicate to PT.

So, can anyone here either point me in the right direction or give me some good regiments that they use?

Thanks to everyone who can help.

Greetings,

I would highly recommend Matt Furey’s program, called Combat Conditioning. He has several other great programs but that is a great one to start with. It will really change your outlook, and put you in the best shape of your life. It did for me.

Thank you, sir.

I will be checking out Mr. Furey's work after a few paychecks from now (Car trouble).

Thanks again.

Default Scrapper

Try out Scrappers Mod 1. Its the best bodyweight material that Ive found. Combat Conditioning is good too. But Furey has went off the mental deep end and dosent appear to be coming back anytime soon. From get rich quick schemes to some weird esoteric beliefs. Scrapper trains the military to pass their PT tests, his methods though cruel are very effective.

Thanks, brother.

I printed up Mod.1 and I'm going to use it for a while.

I think weights have their advantages and disadvantages, but there has to be a reason why so many Martial Arts Instructors tell you to lay off of them.

I drive a stick shift. My left leg was quivering each time I had to push on the clutch?

I did okay with the push ups and the pull-ups, but by the time I got to the dips, I was pretty much spent. I wasn't able to complete the prescribed amount of reps for the leg exercises. I was enough to pump out just 5 lunges.

Oh well.
