I've been looking all over...everywhere and I can't find any martial arts style for my body type (5'9", 190-195) ! God Damnt IT!!! And when I do find something, its at least 30 miles away and starts at night, almost every day. . I'm bitching to everyone because I'm pissed, and thats what I do when I'm pissed.PS-If anyone hear lives near Bloomfield or Detroit area in Michigan, HEEEEELP!!!! Please reply back if you have a solution that will have me training right away in that general area or withing a 10 mile radius.

Not bad, you've got a stocky physique...good for arts like judo or boxing. Try one of those. Visit a couple of schools and see if you like them.

Good grief, and you call yourself "Defiant" Ninja!?! Your body-type doesn't matter THAT much for a martial art; 5'9 with your weight (as long as it's muscle) is a fine height for any art, be it judo, boxing, karate, taekwondo, wushu, Capoeira, etc....it's only if you're like 5'4 or 5'6 and you wanna be a national or world or Olympic Tae Kwon Do champion, then you might run into a little trouble against taller people simply because of the longer legs. But your height, especially a height like 5'9, shouldn't limit you or prohibit you from studying any art.
Be defiant! I am defiant. I am tall (not super tall really but higher than average) and everyone tells me I can't do acrobatics or tumble; yet, look at Joe Eigo, he is one of the best out there (in martial arts tricks, stunts, acrobatics, etc....) yet he is like 6'1. Your size should only affect you at the extreme limits of an art, at the highest levels of competition and even then, if you're really good, it may not. |

By the way, I think Mike Tyson is around 5'9" isn't he? He sort of did okay with boxing, as I recall.
Judo is a great style in itself. In addition, the use of balance and body mechanics you learn in judo will help you learn other other arts later on if you decide to branch out. All you have to do is get to class - quit worrying about how far it is, or how tall your are. Try not to worry about how much it costs or whether you're too out of shape (if you are), or whatever other problem you think of. When you want something there are always plenty of people happy to tell you why you can't get it. Talking you out of things is their job, you're job is to ignore the problems and get what you want anyway. "You don't have to do your best every day - you only have to DO every day." Marvin Hagler (I think)

Well, you can't be THAT fat and be 5'9 capable of 2 pull-ups; amongst the general population, the average amount of pullups is 0. Mosty men out there can't do 1 pull-up. Just keep doing them, and find ways to burn fat and build muscle (pull-ups will build some muscle).
And train hard. |
