Muscle failure is caused when lactic acid builds up to high enough levels to change the PH balance in the blood of your muscles. At this point your body produces corisol which breaks down your muscles.
After this your muscles need to rest to restore ATP and glycogen. Also it takes oxygen to flush the lactic acid out of your muscles. Then your muscles can repair themselves from the cortisol destruction (usually leading to larger muscles). The larger the muscles, the more lactic acid that needs to build up to affect the PH. A person must reach failure in order to build up larger muscles. (not the same as overtraining). In order to keep from overtraining the lactic acid needs to be flushed out before training again. Other than breathing and supersaturating, are there any efficient ways to gain more oxygen into your bloodstream, or any other ways to quickly remove the lactic acid? Thanks
