Default Need Advice on lifting and body type.

well ive been working out for about a year now and altered my eating style ive noticed definite changes, For instance last year i was a skinny kid with probably little muscle.

Since then im very into physical fitness, but one thing that has been bothering me lately is since ive started working out and eating healthier( I.E not drinking pop only water, and avoiding fastfood, and trying not to eat alot of sweets) I still eat generally what i want as long as its not too bad for you. Just generally eating healthier, its getting ridicoulous some of my family think im anorexic, becuase im getting skinnier, this is mainly cause of the diet and the working out, but im really muscular for my size. not to brag but for the sake of my point, im pretty damn cut.

Well A gril made a comment to me in school today saying if i got any skinnier that i would be sickly looking. This frustrates me cause ive gained a little size, but alot of strentgh and definition from when i stareted. When i lift, i do weight that i fail out in 9-10 reps not like im doing light weight and alot of reps so...

What im wondering is it just becuase of some people body types, that they stay skinny i guess like myself? Im 5'8" and about 148 lbs now so idk i know that some people just cant gain size through genetics, although this puzzles me cause my dad and uncle where lifters and my dad boxed and he was damn big. so idk

should i be altering my workout style, becuase my goal is to gain some size but still stay really agile and fast and still stay really defined.

Plus what to say to these people when they say i look skinny. Id like to rip off my shirt and be like, " whos anorexic now bitch!!!" but i obviously cant to that .

What do you guys think?

Sounds like you're an ectomorph (http://www.bodybuildingspot.com/bodytype.html for details). You might want to try increasing your caloric intake, if you're only eating 3x a day you're probably not going to get enough of what you need to add muscle. Try lower reps and heavier weights as well, or some of the old hardcore mass adding programs from the past. A good way to add in more to your diet is drink an extra two glasses of milk with every meal. It mostly sounds like diet and genetics to me, as that's what most endomorphs have problems with when weight training and attempting to put on mass. The site above also gives some good advice as well as describing the different body types. I'm a mesomorph myself so I'm very lucky.

The link also has a gaining muscle diet for ectomorphs as well, try that out if you want to give it a shot.

well if you get bigger then usually you will lose definition, but I guess you could probably do one workout a week with light weights for definition if you are really worried about it. Usually however, bodybuilders usually like to build up mass, and then work on definition. Its like one example Arnold uses in that Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding, he says its like building up the clay before you chisel it into perfection. Also, you should probably do less reps than 8-10. Ive been working out since probably November last year doing 1-7 reps ive gained probably 15 pounds or so already. Also, you dont really need to buy expensive protein shakes or supplements, generally just eating more of what you normally eat and drinking lots of milk will give you enough protein to gain mass(i try to drink 4-5 glasses of milk a day). Good luck, and remember not to slack off on your workouts. Hard work brings results.

you're still in school, you're not a small kid dont worry about it. You seem to be enjoying your lifestyle, it's healthy for you, your not bothering anybody, do what you want. Of course people are going to pick on you, especially family, thats what family does. It wouldnt matter what you had going on in your life, your family will always be there to pick on you.

And about the girl at school. She's probably still attracted to chubby highschool boys, and jealous that she's already getting the "Freshman 15", and its going straight to her ass. Ask one of her friends out on a date, it will work in your favor Play the game.

I wouldnt change a thing, just based on what others think. As you get older, you'll get bigger, no doubt.

If you're adding mass, you won't be able to stay that ripped, but once you add it it will be pretty easy to get cut again with your metabolism.
