![]() | Dear Mr. Staple I said the weights would tend to hurt your knees even if your small like me. But I was just reading an article on Joe Frazier and he would do his roadwork in construction boots. I wear ankle weights around my apt.; roadwork hurts my knees enough. I'm 51. See ya |

![]() | I juggle my soccer ball for a few hours with ankle weights, then cool down for a few more with them off. I try to do what I've come to invision as tai chi like moves... something flowing, to reduce the impact when moving / jumping around. I haven't the foggiest how to do tai chi though. hehe.I haven't had any injuries... but I'm sure thats because I stretch, and drink a few gallons of whole milk every week. You look wierd with the weights on and all your movements seem to be compressed, but it's euphoric when the weights first come off and you leg flips around like it wasn't even there. I wear some bunched up leg warmers to protect my ankle and that tendon at the back of the foot. There are many styles of ankle weights... some have iron rods in them, others use a finer sand like filling to add weights, I think the sand ones are more forgiving, but they don't let you adjust the amouont. I've had problems wearing more then one per leg, the strap restricts the calf and if you make it loose then it just slides down over the bottom weight and gets in the way of me jugglng the soccer ball... I think some people use ankle weights in the pool. I agree with just wearing them around just doing your daily routine... maybe even add some variation, lift up your heels when you're standing still, or stand on one foot and lift the other leg up, helps with balance. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. ![]() Instead of jumping straight up and down maybe jog backwards on your toes... keep your heels off the ground. If it's just jumping you're worried about, buy a football vest and strap all the iron rods to that and wear the wieights that way. or if they sell weighted vests then get that... I tend to Mc guyver things so yeah. ![]() BTW I'm about 6' 145lbs.
