Default ideal weight...

hi

I am 20 years old, and i guess i have a stopped growing seeing as i have hardley changed at all in the last 5 years. I am 5'8 and weigh just under 10 stone. I eat loads but i just cant seem to put on any weight, i even tried going on a high protein diet while drinking protien shakes, i did this for about 3/4 months. people are amazed when i eat the same as guys twice my size and just cant figure out where it all goes. I dont do exersise every day so i doubt i'm just burning it off. Whats wrong with me?? I would like to get more power into my MA techniques as i feel i am at a disadvantage due to my size, however preferably without losing my flexibility. What should my ideal weight be??
p.s i dont understand usa weight but i know that there are 14 pounds in a stone.....i think???

well I doubt Just eating will get you bigger, I never saw you say you work out, which is a rather important factor of getting bigger.

when i was on my high protein diet i was doing bicep curls, tricep extentions at home, then i joined a gym and once a week i would do my whole upper body using the machines not the free wieghts. In this time i got much better at lifting and could lift heavier weights, i was doing 3 sets of 10 reps. i did a 15 minute run before on the treadmill, then 10 minutes of rowing at he end.
I got kind of frustrated that this didnt get me any where so i thought, maybe itll just be easier if i just put on fat and go from there but i cant even seem to do that.
I am just meant to be this size?? like bruce lee worked out non stop and he never really got any bigger just more ripped, maybe i should try that instead??

Well if my conversions are correct (I didn't check), that would make you 5'8" and about 140lbs. I'm 5'10" 145lbs. So we're not that far apart, and I don't really feel like I'm small or lacking power.....
Your only 20 so KEEP WORKING OUT and don't worry about your weight. Your will most likely fill out as you get older. If you train hard and feel strong then you will be! Don't get too worried

thanks, i think i will fill out as my brother who is 25 used to be very skinny but a couple of years ago he went on a high protien diet and got a personal trainer at the gym at his work. he got much bigger and now is a really good size for his weight 5'11 and 190ibs. i'm not sure wether he put on weight because of the diet or his age. probably both i guess. I would like to be Genki Sudo kind of size i think.

Nah, fill out isnt a british term... unless its a canada/british term lol...

Ummm, first of all ... I will give you this website... www.bodybuilding.com

read anything and everything you can on "bulking"... they are bulking for flashy muscles... but for getting bigger thats what you want to be doing...

you mentioned at your house and then alter gym you were doing bicep curls... tricep extensions .. and then a full body workout once a week.

I have a question for you... what about your legs... there half your body are they not?... If you want to really get bigger you need to workout your legs or you will start to gain the term... "chicken legs".

As for the diet.. you should get as much protein you can, at the VERY least... a gram of protein for every pound your body is... everyday, I'd even say up to 2 grams of protein per pound each day for you. You also have to eat alot of calories and whatnot too.... I would say try to get 500-1000 calories over what your burning off each day... try to aim for 3500 calories as just a shot in the dark. If you eat more calories than you burn in a day, you will gain size.. and the formula is reverse for when you want to lose weight and size. That doesnt mean you should just cut everything out though if you want to retain your muscles.

Diet is about 90% of lifting/working out apparently.. personally I just try to eat healthy foods and dont calculate any of that shite but... if you want to succeed in getting big you probably should. Try to eat smaller meals throughout the day... 6 times a day is about right...

As for exercises Id recommend compound exercises... SQUATS!!!, deadlifts, bench press, powercleans. Make sure you have proper form for everything as you can hurt yourself doing these things... oh and deadlift is partly your back and so is power clean, but PULLUPS... palms facing away from you, they will make your back explode if you dont workout alot. Try not to work out your "beach" muscles.. abs, chest, and biceps alone... if you truly want to grow you should concentrate on these other things.

While bulking up I would skip the whole run and rowing activities... they will only burn off the calories... you may gain some fat while bulking up.. but if your looking for bodybuilding etc... after you bulk up... say you get up to 200 pounds.. you can "cut" down to 185... and be jakked and ripped etc.... dont expect to just explode to 200 though.

Also your rep range.. 3 sets of ten... well theres alot of debate about this.. but a generally accepted principle is.... 1-5 reps... your looking for power, explosiveness, maximum weight movement.. (this will help you get big)... 6-8, or 6-10, hypertrophy.. this is for putting on muslces, not necessarily the most powerful, but best for size, although its close with the 1-5...

anything higher than ten will be considered endurance work, and you do not want to be doing this if your looking to get bigger/bulk up.

Well that was pretty long but I hope it helped...

after bulking up for a while, to slim down and get the ripped look, uh, what do ya do....just..stop working out for a while, lay off the food, and just focus on cardio?

because I do cardio while I do all the workout stuff, but this is the sake for actual MMA, not looking good, but I'd of course like to look good while being functional....

For MMA, and believe me I know less about this than all that stuff about bulking up haha....

I would say, well obviously you need to do alot of cardio etc.. for mma fighting as part of your training... you need the conditioning... with that said... proper Cardio and conditioning.. should keep you around.. a bit bigger than your weight class... for instance.. if you fight at 185 as the max... do your cardio conditioning... and eat enough to stay at about 190-195.. or whatever you "walk around at"... than before the fight.. hit up the sauna , or w/e and cut the weight, go to the weigh ins.. re hydrate... you made the 185.. your back up to 190.. and youve got a **** load of conditioning from the constant cardio/conditioning you did...

Guess thats just my thoughts on the subject... I'd say you should constantly do Cardio.. and cut down a weight class if possible through losing water weight... as you can just rehydrate yourself real quickly.

At one point you will want to find a weight calss for mma or w/e... right now I dont want to get any bigger, or w/e... actually losing some weight might be good.. still got some fat left... than just trying to gain strength, and conditioning.. without putting on the size...
