Default I'm 16 is weight training a good idea?

Yeah i'm wondering whether or not it would be worth my while in body building or gaining mass, i'm currentley well toned for my age but weight a flimsy (126 Pounds) but i do ITF Tae Kwon Do which in sparring, speed & flexibility are essential to be a good sparrer which with time would improve but strangly i feel disatisfied with my current bodily form and feel i'd gain satisfaction in applying weight training into my life

I don't see anything wrong with it. In most high schools, they do have a weightlifting clubs. It'll also be a big confidence booster for you.

My kids are gonna be weight training when their 6...

16 is actually late to start if you ask me... ( I realize 6 is extra ordinarily early)...

And dont give me crap about growth stunts and weak bones, it will actually give them stronger bones provided they have the right form in exercises..

Weight training is a great idea. You don't need to lift tons of weight all at once. Work up to it slow and get professional instruction. You can do a lot of damage to yourself if you do it wrong.

Wow wow...6! You are an idiot. The earliest a kid should lift is 11. Most occasions it is typical to lift at 13. Not to mention, a kid who lifts at 6 is growing. Im not even gonna rant on about how that is stupid but damn. Did you see little hercules, his life is pretty much over. Hes 4 feet tall and jacked for a kid, but what happens when he hits 12. Its over.

Anyways, you should definitly lift, proper lifting WILL NOT effect your flexibility and speed.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/workoutdatabase.htm

That should give you a good one with how many days, goal and everything. Good luck bro.

That is poor man. We all have the right to be ignorant, but not to harm children. Think again.

Start with low weights and work your way up. Try to get the right movement always so keep your movement slow. At first you might have problems with balance with both arms etc.. so do it slowly until you get it right.

Good tip Blitz. Also, a lot of guys have problems starting with the bench press (I help workout middleschool wrestlers). My best advice do decline push ups with weights if you cant balance the bar right away. That comes from strength in the forearms. Not to mention, a lot of older people who only use cables and machines cant bench well right away, so just keep at it.

1-5 Reps For Pure Strength
6-10 Reps For Mass
11-15 Reps For toning and muscle endurance

Avoid overtraining! Allow each muscle group 48-72 hours rest before working again. Eventually work each muscle group once a week. There are many books and websites that can help you. To start id say stick with the original and simple 3setsX10reps schedule. If youre gonna supplement, protein powder.

lol u people call me ignorant when u use that little hercules kid as an example and dont look at the facts...

First of all that kid is like 15 now... so "whats gonna happen to him when hes 12" is a kinda stupid question now...

Second of all his dad fed him steroids.. had him on such a strict diet he couldnt eat carrots because they had too much sugar, and made him work out for about 12 hours a day.

And Thai Bri im not harming children, theres nothing wrong with having your kids start to lift weights at that age.

I will be there to supervise, make sure there is correct form , and its not like im gonna be taking em to max out every 4 weeks...( I wouldnt be doing that at all by the way until they were SIGNIFICANTLY older) theyd be doing light weights to build up a good base.. and learn the form, plus get them in the habit...

Shit I hope your kids dont go to gym class and have to do a pushup as they will end up being a 3 foot midget, with bones that shatter when you touch them, and they'll become a freak like that little hercules kid...

Let me ask you this, are you a doctor? So dont push your bullshit on me. Its not healthy so says many books and athletic adivsors. Ever wonder why wrestlers in elementry school dont lift weights. Push ups are okay but a push up aint a barbell. Maybe you need to have a jacked kid to make you feel better about yourself or some bs. Ive helped lots of kids in wrestling and weightlifting, sure Im young but Ive worked with a lot of coachs and Ive read more books then you can imagine. So unless you have some real training or evidence, take some real advice, dont **** your kid up for no reason.

You tell me to post evidence.. and your evidence is.. "youve read many books and listened to athletic advisors"...

Wow shit man, great evidence, thats rock solid.. .cant beat that.

First of all I dont need a jakked kid to feel better about myself, I'm a jakked kid right now fuckbag...

Lets think about how much an average 6 year old weighs.... a male 6 year old.. hmmm... I'm gonna guess ... 50-60 pounds....

So if he does a pushup hes lifting what.. I dont know... 45-50 pounds of weight...

Now if he lifts a ten pound, or 20 pound barbell (on benchpress as it is the weightlifting equivalent to a pushup) and slowly increases from there, as he also increases weight, how is this worse?

If anything your saying he should be lifting more weight than I think he should. And dont give me some shit about how because its a chunk of metal hes lifting his bones will snap... gimme a break...

Kids are specifically restricted to body weight movements BECASUE that is all their growing bones and joints can cope with. Giving a set of weights to a six year old is sick.

Wow...Seriously. Your kid is gonna be pretty messed up. If that shit was true, dont you think more people would do it? and dont say that youre the smartest one out there or some bs. But then again, what woman would let her husband do that to her kid, more or less would marry a guy who wants to do that.

My kid isnt gonna be messed up hes not just gonna be like every other obese fat ass child you see walking around.

If you guys want your fucking lard ass wives who dont believe in fitness, to give birth to lardass children who die when their 50 of a heart attack cause no one could say no to them having ice cream and other shit whenever they wanted thats your problem.

My kid isnt gonna be some freak like that little hercules kid, I wouldnt do that to them because thats sick.

Introducing them to weight training and exercising at an early age (I just randomly picked 6 okay).. is a good thing to do, medical costs wouldnt be so high if more people gave a shit about their kids health.
